I got stopped for carrying a camera in the so called open area.
But I will say this, he was very well behaved when he saw I was filming him and refused to turn it off when he asked me too. Backup arrived and he told them I was videotaping, and the backup just leaned back against their vehicle with their hands behind their back, wanting no part in the event.
Once they determined I wasn't a terrorist, they returned my ID and let me leave.
They were definitely camera shy.
Unless it was posted to strictly prohibit cameras on the plaza, which I doubt, then they had no right to stop you specifically for that. Maybe they recognized you from your postings on this forum and that's why they stopped you!! LOL
JUST BECAUSE SISSY SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO...BUT HE THINKS IT DOES!!!!! JUST BECAUSE MC1 SAYS SO DOESN'T MAKE IT SO!!!!!

After 9/11 there was a attempt to go after anyone who was taking pictures next to any government building, reason the person might be some AlQaeda member doing recon I guess the government never heard of google images where you can get hundreds of pictures of any building in America.

Yah, I was told to put away my camera when I was taking pics out the window of plane flying over the Alps....must be I was going to bomb the Alps or something and taking recon.

I've spent far too much time photographing in that area to thnk anything but. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with you?
The Paranoia on this board is amazing. "I WAS STOPPED FOR CARRYING A CAMERA!!!" Of course the guy behind me who wasn't carrying a camera was stopped too, but they stopped me for my camera!
It's tough to be a "VICTIM" when they won't attack you when you want them to.

Common sense went out the door after 9/11.

Box and Joe you don't see anything wrong with a citizen being stopped or questioned just for having a camera????!!!!!!!!! Oh of course you dont what was I thinking
I was in the main concourse for a ski show (held in the Egg) at the same time that a car show was going on in the concourse. I used a different parking lot which got me turned around when I entered the main concourse. I was in front of the State Police office and reading the signs trying to get my bearings to go to the Egg. A NY State Trooper then "QUESTIONED ME"! He had the nerve to confront me and ask me: "Do You Need Any Help?" (the B@stard)
I could go on a rant and spew venom at the State Police for paragraphs on this board. I could point out that "HE HAD NO RIGHT TO QUESTION ME" or some other lame BS... but of course we all know what really happened.
I'm not paranoid... I look at the State Police as 'working FOR me' not 'AGAINST me'. I thanked him for his help. If Cissy or Henry or the other anti govt anarchists were with me, they would have, no doubt, been totally offended by the exact same interaction with the police. For them it would have been an attack by the vicious Gestapo State Police! (I assume the "Camera" issue is similar.)

Joe my apology but I saw the foil hat and well......
Now there's a gentleman...thank you. And if my reply was gruff, I do apologize. For clarification, my "giggles" type replies to L4L were exactly that...giggles only and not serious. Well, maybe the hat....he may be home right now covering his baseball cap after seeing that picture!!!

Not at all, now if the cop came towards me while unsnapping his service pistol and then asked for identification I would have a problem. I'll give you an example, one night me and my friend hit up a club in Colonie, after awhile we decided to go out to smoke a cigarette, since it was cold we jumped in his truck. Before I could even light my cigarette a spotlight lit up the whole truck and 2 Colonie cops approached. We both rolled down the windows and the cop asked what we were doing, I told him we came out for a cigarette, he replied why are you in the truck, I said because it is 20 degrees out. Well he didn't like that so him and his partner went on how we weren't going to drive anywhere that night. I then explained how I didn't drink anything as I was going to be the designated driver, it didn't matter they were on their power trip and they would not let me drive even though I was completely sober. The cops had nothing better to do then to harass 2 people who did nothing wrong, they probably just got hard on thinking they had power over us. It's dicks like those 2 cops why I question why the officer was stabbed.

If you hadn't been drinking and were sober, why didn't you tell tehm to give you a field sobriety test to prove you were not under the influence and that you were capable of driving home and then they couldn't deny you that right.
They saw you guys go into the truck and thought 2 things probably...leaving after drinking a lot and under the influence...-and/or-... came out to smoke some weed.
But I think you were well within your rights to drive if you were sober and they couldn't deny you that. i think if it were me I would ahve asked for the test, and/or I would have said okay, I'm about to drive and if you want to arrest me for being under the influence, then go ahead. Otherwise, please understand that I am sober and you cannot prevent me from driving.
BUT I DAMN WELL BETTER BE SOBER AND NOT UNDER INFLUENCE OF ANYTHING befoe I did that.
