Police were investigating the cause of the accident and provided no further details on the assault suspect.
The pedestrian was identified as 28-year-old William A. Jennings of Schenectady. The truck driver was identified only as a 48-year-old man.

A Schenectady man is dead after getting pinned under a tractor trailer on Central Ave. in Colonie. Police say the driver of the big rig was also assaulted at the scene moments after the accident.
Investigators were still at the scene late Saturday morning trying to reconstruct the accident that took the life of 28 year-old William Jennings.
“Preliminary investigation shows that the pedestrian was on the roadway when they were hit,” says Colonie Police Lt. Ken Pero.
Witnesses say the Schenectady man came out of Shenanigans on Central Ave. around 3:30 in the morning and got into a fight. They say he ran off into the roadway, that's when police say the 18-wheeler from the postal service ran him over. Police say it was a gruesome scene. Jennings was pinned under the truck between the tires.
“He died instantly and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner,” says lt. Pero.
The driver of the big rig was taken to Albany medical center, but not because of injuries from the accident.
“Immediately after the incident, the truck driver exited the vehicle to check on the pedestrian, he was assaulted on the street by unknown persons,” says Pero.
Police are still trying to figure out who beat him up. The 48 year-old driver is already out of the hospital and recovering. Police say he was working, finishing up a shift for the postal service. He's not facing any charges
“No alcohol involved. He was heading back with an empty rig back to the post office on Karner Road,” the Lieutenant says.
Police say the investigation into the exact circumstances of this accident is not over yet. They'll be looking at surveillance video and speak to witnesses. They also need your help to find the suspects who assaulted the driver.

When all investigation is done, I would bet that alcohol played a part with this poor guys death or else he wouldn't have been standing in the road. Too bad he was killed and RIP.
I had heard that they were either "horsing around" or fighting out in front of the club and this man ran out into the road. It is a shame, I feel bad for the guy that hit him also. How ghastly.
