SCHENECTADY — The city licenses about 1,500 dogs a yea r, a process that not only gets pooches on the record books, but requires they receive a rabies shot too.
But City Clerk Chuck Thorne estimates there are up to 15,000 canines in Schenectady, which is why he is pushing for a census to rein in those owners who do not get a license for their animals.................>>>>......................>>>>.................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/local/article/City-wants-dog-census-4304687.php#ixzz2LvwEu7uQ

Just looking for more money. The city doesnt even do its part in assist people in the liscensing process. In 2011, the Dept of Ag and Markets dropped from being responsible but the city website still has the old application pointing people to the wrong place! Wonder how many responsible dog owners wasted there time going to Airline Drive in Albany. What a joke the city administration is in Schenectadys and they are wondering why people arent flocking in to liscense their dogs! http://www.cityofschenectady.com/pdf/dog_lic.pdfDog licensing changed in 2011 when the state Department of Agriculture and Markets dropped all affiliation with the process. Now, municipalities are responsible for keeping all licensing records, but they also keep all the revenues. I foresee more dogs being dropped off in shelters or wandering the streets after the notice goes out. Taxpayers are sick of getting nickeled and dimmed Over everything.

Pay an unemployed member of a certain Rotterdam town committee to conduct the census. Exercise will allow more visits to his tax delinquent restaurant in the city.
Wait, is that unemployed or unemployable
Oh, he won't enter the city anyway

This is just more proof that the leaders in the city have no clue how to run a city or what is important. |

it is a TOTAL waste of time to legislate or try to enforce ANY laws!!! the majority of the folks who live in the city are sadly a lost cause. just ask some folks who work at the dss building. just ask a teacher for the schenectady schools. you can't educate folks who have no working brain cells. the best paying job in the city is dealing drugs...........TRUTH!! the dems have lost the battle!!! |

BINGO!!!! maybe they could ask Godfather Governor if they could buy a surplus of 5cent slugs to clean up the city... oh, no no no,,,we're not at the top of the food chain. we love dogs. a civilized society elevates them and uses hard earned tax dollars to fit them with wheelchairs if needed. we deserve the 'dog walk' we get |

I think it's a GREAT idea (yes, that's sarcasm folks!)
....this way when the stray pit bull bites someone, the victim can now know who the owner of the animal was as that person changes addresses and flees the City before the civil lawsuit comes through the courts.
And the City collected it's nominal fee to pay for it's $100K census employee....
Please control board....where art thou!!!!! |

I thought that animal control was turned over to the water department employees to run with the help of jail inmates.
Send the plumbers out to count dogs and collect strays. They can then take them back to the newly created water department managed animal hotel. |

How about make the dog liscense tags 6 inces by 6 inches and paint them neon orange and have a $50 (LED of course) light on them so it is obvious who doesnt have a liscense. We could then bury the application somewhere on the website and have it pop up to the incorrect application......and then wonder why we dont have compliance. |

Grown men who have been relieved of responsibility for their own sons and daughters will buy licenses for their dogs. Yep.
Parent is right. Better get that shelter built. It will be full in a day. Hey, there's a job a certain former mayor might be able to do - we'll need a dogcatcher, won't we? |

Another new ow from the husband of the failed DEM State Senate candidate. The problem isn't unlicensed dogs its pit bulls and lack of Animal Control coverage. Someone is going to be killed before these phonies actually do something. Then we have the Commiss who said that more animal control officers won't help. WTF! Take a dog census in City Hall. |
