Mike - You certainly won't ever hear me say that.  It's just that it wasn't this time.

Using the term "purchase" for "lease" is inaccurate reporting. I'm not discussing whether or not the department needs cars, I'm discussing the article which is obfuscating enough without calling a lease a purchase. I would like to know what is going on, considering that I know people who cannot afford to replace their own cars because every cent they have besides what they need for basic necessities is going for their taxes. Is the money being spent wisely? It doesn't sound that way to me, but I am only getting bits and pieces of the real story. It is quite frustrating.
There are basic accounting/purchasing/money management principles that cities are supposed to be following. A lot of cities are facing problems because of the worldwide financial collapse, but some cities are doing better than others because they did not succumb to the temptation to start doing irresponsible things with money just because they could.
Remember when Al Jurzinski was mayor, and he kept saying the city had problems because of 9/11, and no one new what he was talking about? Also itturned out that the city was spending capital funds for operating expenses? That is Budgeting 101. Who would've thought that the city did not have anybody working for it who did not understand basic municipal finance? That's why BS brought in that Ismat person, supposedly to put finance back on a professional track. However, it appears that the woman just went along with some of BS' more dubious ideas. Or she didn't know her stuff, either. In any case, they left a mess.
Now we have a new administration, but we are faced with the same old same old, individuals in no way qualified to make any kind of money decisions substituting their perceived innate genius for anyone's professional expertise. Or it could be deliberate, ripping off the taxpayers for as long as possible to benefit the few, until the whole thing totally collapses.
Remember Bell, California? Why do people disbelieve that the same thing could be, and probably is, happening here?

I wonder how the county home will fare after the taxpayers finish paying for the new building? can the county afford it?
will it go to a helper?

Apologies for hijacking this thread, but although I didn't have the high expectations some did for this president,  I did expect him to do something with regard to making usury illegal again. He made some noises with regard to financial/credit reforms, but didn't actually do a damn thing. People act as ifhe's this big savior of poor people, but he's not. At least not the working poor types, who are trying to get ahead.

I don't know why the cops need 10 new cars to begin with.

They use the new computerized crime targeting. They should just walk the beat in the hotspots.

Oh that's right, it's not safe.

It's only safe for us mere humans.

Anyone notice that every single garbage truck in the city has the front fender bent on both sides.  In fact most of them have them have been entirely cut off.  Probably due to them hitting things to many times.

The body shop saws are busy!
