It's a culmination of all of these that will require some sort of responsibility from this driver....as it should be.

It is also common for people to stay in the left lane passing as many cars as possible, then cross over to the first lane when they are within 500 feet of the exit ramp. The guy apparently thought he was a better driver than he actually was. Most people do.
They should drug test all 5 people involved if past drug use is going to be used as criteria for blame.
The driver who caused the accident wasn't an experienced good driver. The system is designed for revenue, not to keep bad drivers off the roads.
The young driver who was killed might not have gone out of control if he had more experience either.

SUV's rarely flip over when driving straight on an interstate When front of a car hits the rear of another car, 99% of the time it is the fault of rear-ender.. ANY car with ANY driver can spin and/or rollover when hit at an angle at speed...Police pursuit end-game 101...Because the alcohol angle is probably not going to happen, it may be difficult to get anymore than a reckless driving conviction on him...but like I said, he will be burned at the stake in civil court. People take risks on the road all the time, but when that risk results in injury, you should be held responsible.

Teenagers are barely able to even drive late at night.
A more experienced driver might have had better control of the SUV.
A more experienced driver might not have hit his rear end when changing lanes either.
Myself, I would not allow a teenager top operate an SUV on the Northway at night.
It's not passing the blame. It's being aware of inexperience. I have had many close calls with idiot kids on the highway. I have over 40 years of experience dealing with idiots, though.
It's called defensive driving. Knowing that you must be ready for the unexpected.
Just driving along minding your own business is not enough. You must be aware of every person's actions near you, and be ready to take action.
People under 25 have accidents. Teenagers are especially at risk.

I agree. our heart is in our throats when we hear of 17 - 25 yr olds on the thruway/northway where going 75 is 'speed as usual'. However.....that is the how to get to and from places these days. We even hate driving those roads and do so out of necessity. How 'bout going thru the 24 tolls during rush hour.........OMG!!

When you pass the twin bridges, the speed limit goes up after about 2 miles. Many drivers just go up to 75 right after the bridges. Many stay at 55 and don't speed up for many miles past the higher speed limit signs. That is a particularly dangerous spot on both the northbound and southbound lanes. 1 mile before I90 on the southbound side is 5 and 6 lanes of people sliding across the entire roadway to gain a few spots before the ramp. That one mile is the most dangerous spot on the entire Northway.
You are correct about the exit 24 toll booth interchange too. It is a nightmare and accidents happen all the time.
As far as losing his license for speeding tickets, that shows his age. Any experienced driver will plea not guilty, then get the $150 fine for parking on the highway.
It is a very tragic event. The lives of all the involved parties will be changed forever, along with their families and friends.
For the record, almost all of the world makes you wait until you are 18 to drive. The US and Canada let you drive at 14-16 depending on your location.
Also the US drinking age is 21 and most of the world is 18 and many are 16. A few have no minimum drinking age, just a minimum age to buy alcohol.
Some countries feel cars are more dangerous than alcohol. Not the US.

It's not like it use to be when folks got married and had kids of their own by the time they were 20....those days are long gone.
even GOV ALMIGHTY catagorizes 26 year olds as kids........parents can still cover them on their health insurance.
So in todays culture.....he is nothing more then a 22 year old KID....still wet behind the ears with little real life experiences.....imho.

Would agree with you if I had not read anything about him or his past criminal history. Anyone can be a 'kid' ...but even a 12 year old can commit murder and I'd not let his age take that away from his lack of humanity.
Was this guy a hot mess? His child was taken away from social services, he was dealing drugs out of a rental house and he changed his name to some street one. In my opinion, not a kid making bad choices, a bad person making bad choices.
