Let's see, thread title = "Double Dipping > They All Do It"

and then this comment

Seems to me the topic was: "Double Dipping > They All Do It"

It also seems to me anytime there's the slightest criticism of "St. Zollinger" here, it elicits a firestorm of indignation. Funny how that works.

I have no problem with criticism of anybody.  But...let's have and honest record of her words to criticize.

You seem to not care the Gazette edits the contents of a letter.

...when you started being cute and redirecting back to "thread topic" when people started posting in response to Ms Zollenger's full letter to the editor.

Then you spend too much time trying to read between the lines. The only reason I went back to the thread topic was to point out to Avon that I wasn't the one who went off topic here.

I'll just go back to my original post, in which I responded to a Buckstrider comment, that if the paper annoys you then don't read it. There are alternatives.

As for the original topic, Doubling Dipping. I'm in favor of it. I say get as much as you can and screw anybody who doesn't like it. I got mine and if you didn'too bad. It's every man for himself out here, and if I have to step on somebody to get what belongs to me well too bad.

Now I need to get to bed. Going fishing in the a.m. and 4am comes mighty early when you get to be my age.

Personally, I agree with both Pat Zollinger and Rusty -- we should not single out only elected from only one party when they double-dip  ---- and we certainly need to change the system COMPLETELY -- I propose adopting the system used by the Ancient Greeks in Athens.   Each year, their would be a "lottery" to select representatives from each district to send to Washington and Albany -- all legally registered voters would be eligible to b chosen -- the same way that we choose jurors.    A citizen could only serve ONE 1 year term in either the national legislature or the state legislature.

The reason that I agree with Rusty is that I don't think that EITHER party is going to fix the problems in Washington or Albany --- so to hell with it -- get what you can, while you can and then go fishing or whatever you really enjoy doing with your life.

.

But how come you have never criticized your buddy dem the mayor for double dipping?   Huh?   Well?

And how come you have never criticized your buddy at Proctors who double dips on the STAR exemption (one on his residence, the other on a house he owns but does not reside), thus forcing the city homeowners to pay for it?

And then why don't you criticize your fat buddy Morris about his double dipping--by getting his salary paid by the financially struggling homeowners in the city, then by expecting volunteers---typically seniors on low fixed incomes---to pay for volunteering, hosting lavish and expensive weddings, etc, and then refusing to pay a dime in taxes to the city and county.

How about those?

Of course no comment.  He's probably eating the cheese he bought at Shop-Rite early this afternoon, or the stuff in the bakery.   Must have been spending aunties' dough

speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

just because it's legal doesn't make it right
just because it's illegal doesn't make it wrong

Pat Zollinger is to be commended for her noble, although arguably quixotic, effort to reach the people with important issues. Why bother with the Gazette? It's where people are getting the one-sided and false information, isn't it? Where else would you attempt to correct it?
I agree, the original letter was on target.
