Furniture charity gets a new home

Catholic Charities will have some much-needed space for its Furniture Program after moving into a new location in the Rotterdam Corporate Park.
The program was relocated to the park from the former St. Anthony’s on the Hudson in Rensselaer, where it had been for several years. The new location will give Catholic Charities a total of 6,500 square feet of space — roughly 1,500 square feet more than the organization had in Rensselaer — to serve the transitional furniture needs for more than 500 households per year across a 14-county area in the Albany Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church.
“We are thrilled to be in this new, expanded location where we can better serve our clients,” Vincent Colonno, Catholic Charities CEO, said in a prepared statement.
The program serves low-income individuals and families including veterans, domestic violence victims, immigrants, the disabled, the elderly and the working poor. Others include people coming out of shelters or being released from prison.
The warehouse will keep a variety of furniture on hand, including mattresses, couches, dressers, coffee tables, end tables, kitchen tables, chairs and bookcases. The program also provides people with small household appliances, linens, dishes, glasses, silverware and cookware.
The inventory will vary depending on the donations received from the community. Donations are accepted from individuals and businesses across the region.
Anyone who would like to donate furniture, serve as a volunteer or is in need of furniture can contact the Catholic Charities Furniture Program at 453-6650.
