'How it all ends'!
I grew up in Watervliet, NY. I lived there for 57 years, more or less.
I am now living in Rotterdam, NY, since 2004.
As my travels allow I drive through Watervliet, it is depressing. The grand old house that was my grandparents that I 'restored' out of a misguided sense of respect is now all but ruined. Ruined by a fool who got a government loan. He did pay me a ton of money for the place, unlike the fool I will not squander the money.
Just about all the people I knew are gone. The ones that are left are losing it, their families tolerate them till they die. I use to check in with them but to see them gone in the head is unpleasant for me.
Watervliet has become a FREE SUFF city. Soon all of America will be that way.
In the 1970s I use to socialize in Rotterdam. One Saturday afternoon sitting in the back yard of a coworker I said; "This is a place I would like to live"!
The people, lots of Italians & Poles are as the people use to be in Watervliet, but much nicer in Rotterdam. Thankfully the Irish are in the minority in Rotterdam, in Watervliet they ruled with a heavy hand. I wish I moved out of Watervliet sooner than I did but circumstance kept me there.
Watervliet is America in microcosm. The way we are as a nation. Rotterdam is an Island of the good America. Rotterdam politics is destroying this wonderful place. I see the same signs I saw in Watervliet of the end of a great place to live.
How it all ends? 14, 000,000 fewer people vote that in the previous election. Blood feuds (revenge), race politics, class struggle, FREE STUFF government, that is how it ends.
Everyone reading this should drive through Watervliet. Imagine a city where people went to work in the morning, religious parades were abundant in May around Catholic Churches, presidents drove through with people lining the streets, houses & gangways were kept clean, all gone.
How it all ends is a work in progress. How it will look it what Watervliet has become. Soon all of America will be one big Watervliet.
Watch out Rotterdam, you are becoming a Watervliet.
