A new USA Today/Gallup poll in 12 battleground states find voters are now significantly more enthusiastic about voting this fall than they were in June: 59% are either "extremely" or "very" enthusiastic, up from 46%.
But Democrats' level of enthusiasm has increased more: "Thus, whereas equal percentages of Democrats and Republicans were enthusiastic in June, Democrats are now significantly more enthusiastic than Republicans, 73% vs. 64%." |

As far as the polling info for Michigan -- the Detroit News was never (IMHO - based on my own and friends/relatives experience) a stellar newspaper. Let's just say that the Detroit News and the Daily Gazette are only useful for performing certain functions around the house ----- lining a bird cage, helping to start a fire on a charcoal grill, wrapping up fish, etc. |

A new Allstate/National Journal Heartland Monitor Poll finds President Obama leading Mitt Romney nationally, 50% to 43%.
Key finding: When asked if they were better off than you were four years ago, likely voters responded "almost exactly in thirds: in the poll, 31% say they are better off than four years ago, while 34% say they are worse off and 34% say they are about the same."
Also important: "Overall, 48% say they believe the country is better off because Obama won in 2008, while 41% say the nation would be in a stronger position today if another candidate had won." |

You really have to be wary about polling --- Who was sampled? How credible is the organization doing the sampling? What was the margin of error? Was the poll of registered voters or likely voters? The answer to all those questions make a big difference in judging the reliability/veracity of these polls. It is interesting that you cite a poll showing Romney 1 point behind Obama in Pennsylvania. If this is accurate -- then that would be GREAT NEWS for Romney because Pennsylvania is not on most people's lists of "toss up states" and has pretty much gone Democratic except for Republican landslide years (Reagan in 1984 and Nixon in 1972) and maybe one or two other occasions since 1960. Bottomline - it is a close race in the 6 to 10 swing states ... within the margin of error ... and this is good news for the challenger, Governor Romney, and not so good news for the incumbent, Obama. |
