Hey....I'm all for feeding the hungry or doling out money for those in need..eg rent, clothes, doctor bills etc....! I do it very frequently....and I do it 'personally'! I also do it via my paycheck thru taxation. But paleeezzzzeeee don't even try to make me want to dole my hard earned money out to the cradle to grave welfare recipients who have 5+ kids by 5+ different daddys...k? Or to teenage girls who want to have their own babies and when asked how they are going to support them, they respond by saying....'like my momma...welfare'!! Just ask any 'school for troubled kids' employees! The stories will curl your toes.

Can't buy food or pay rent, but ya can afford those flat screen tv's while yer prostituting yourself for your next fix while your daddy's baby's are locked in their rooms! TRUE!!! It's disgusting and it's a growing cancer that has taken over our society. And don't expect the liberal nut jobs to raise the bar anytime too soon.....they are after all the ones who created this subculture....it guarantee votes from an uneducated dumbed down society!!

Isn't Nike a Corporation?  You don't agree with supply side subsidies, but you are fine with demand side subsidies?  I don't think the corporation cares either way.  They are getting their money either way.  Demand side subsidies funnel the money through the local municipalities in the form of sales tax revenue which funds Metroplex.

The concern should be with subsidized consumerism. Who sets the standard of who deserves more or better than what they currently have? Would you begrudge me a tax subsidized Corvette?  Hey, I can always say it creates jobs for Union Labor.

Your elected officials decide.

They have rules prohibiting Corvettes to those on public assistance..

Actually, most of it's from Rent A Center, which is even more of a waste.
They move in, the RAC truck pulls up, the next day the people from DISH show up (because Time Warner won't deal with them anymore), and 6 months later, the whole thing happens again, only in reverse.

They do it over and over, until they have no more of their kids' SS#s to burn through.

Jealousy not at all, I could go down and collect every form of government assistance avilable if I wanted to, I meet their goals to collect, however I decide not to, me and my family do without many luxaries to get by. Point being I don't feel entitled as you said to others money, I will go a step further and say I'm not entitled to others money.

I am entitled to Social Security. I paid into it for over 40 years.

I purchased it, unwillingly.

I'm not setting any such example by not taking my promised return.

If you want to end entitlements for the future, fine.

Just don't even think of trying to take my invested entitlement funds.

Quoted from Henry

As far as forcing libertarianism I don't know, yes you and me should lead as examples by being self reliant but others should know that they shouldn't force us into their version of an entitlement society.

I'm not setting any such example by not taking my promised return.

Quoted from Henry

That is how far gone we are as a country, we have to beg and fight to keep the fruits of our labor which right now is a losing battle due to those who feel "entitled" to our money. Sad part is the problem is only getting worse and we have generations of people who don't know what responsibility means, instead of offering just enough to get by we offer them a free pass on everything.

The responsibility to take care of those in need was accepted by those who decided to allow taxes to be taken for that purpose.

Quoted from Henry

Poor should be poor, they should know that to make it they have to take responsibility, that is not what we are doing and I see it every day.

The deal was take the taxes and take care of everyone collectively. Not selectively and inflict your values and standards on the recipients.

Quoted from Henry

As far as representation goes they have the same options as all of us, however do you think they want a representative that will eliminate their free ride or a representative that promises them even more. The dems have used promises to keep these people loyal, they give them enough to be happy but never enough to make something of themselves, success is now a bad word and comes under attack, if you make to much lets tax you more, oh you're succeeding lets place some more regulations on your business.

Taxes for the collective will always be a reality.

It is not your place to judge the actions of those in need.

It is the responsibility of the government that you accepted by voluntarily paying your taxes.

But, but, welfare abuse, expensive sneakers, cars, etc.

Panic.

The military pays 400 dollars for a hammer.

Stop the damn whining about someone on food stamps eating a steak.

This sounds like Conservative Christian intolerance at work.

Rent a center and Aaron's are government allowed corporations that charge exorbitant interest and price gouging.

The very act of determining "those in need" require judgement.  Whose job is that?

You elected representatives determine, who gets to determine, who gets the money.

As far as my children, I paid for the retirements of my parents and grandparents.

I don't know your age, but based on some posts, I am assuming you are a baby boomer or very close to it.  So to your point, the ponzi scheme sorta worked for a while when the first to collect birthed a generation larger than their own to pay for it.  The population has been going in the other direction ever since.  Since the greedy people were convinced that children were a permanent liability and never an potential asset.

BTW...America is $16 Trillion in debt and running a $1 Trillion dollar annual deficit.  You didn't pay for grandma and grandpa, and mom and dads retirement.  That bill is still unpaid.  There are a lot of people in America with 2 homes(mortgages), multiple cars(car loans), boats, RV's, yearly Disney Vacations, and they really think they were able to enjoy that lifestyle AND still pay for their parents retirements and fund their own retirements.  That is a fantasy...Nobody paid for any of it.  It's just taking a while until that reality sinks in.  Then all hell will break loose.

Can you imagine what it would be like if Social Security were privatised, and invested in the stock market the way the republicans wanted?

And 'some' is what you will receive as we inflate our way out of the debt.  Many Americans that lived in the middle class will retire in poverty.  There is no free lunch.
