The Schenectady County Sheriff's Office is getting a big chuck of money to put towards its canine explosive detection unit.
The office will receive a $50,000 grant from the New York State division of Homeland Security.
It will allow for more training for their canine unit, and help fund a new vehicle for it.
Sheriff Dominic Dagostino says they can use all the money they can get, as the canine unit relies heavily on private donations for funding.
"This is just another expansion of our unit to do other things to provide to other law enforcement agencies inside and outside the county, and service to residents that doesn't cost them anything," he said.
The grant money will also be used to provide public outreach and education.
