GREENWICH -- A 29-year-old Schenectady man was arrested this weekend after he paid vendors at the Washington County Fair with counterfeit $20 bills, the sheriff's office said. On Friday, Michael Schrom gave fake money to three different vendors at the fair, the sheriff's office said. When questioned about the counterfeit cash, the sheriff's office said Schrom admitted to using the phony money, but would not say where he got it. Schrom was charged with criminal possession of a forged instrument, a felony that carries a maximum 15-year prison sentence. He was arraigned in Easton Town Court and sent to Washington County jail after failing to post bail.
