After the shooting in NYC, we need a national discussion on how to get the guns out of the hands of the cops! As I have said all along- they have a battlefield/war doctrine that now dictates their training. Firing hundreds of rounds in a populated area is not a really well-though out proposition. But the storm-trooper mentality prevails and they have law enforcement theorists like Constantine who they idolize who sit there and draft training plans for young cops to make them more like a militatarized force rather than a civilian police force. They have amped up the entire society with their "Come in heavy" routine. Too bad they watched so many action movies as kids. The tactic they use and some of the weapons would not be allowed to be used on the enemy on the battlefield. Add that to their overt politicalization, felony convictions for people like Hamilton who has a brother who goes on to be the top cop in the county thru politics- Is it any wonder why the trust is gone?

I agree completely.

The police and the gangs have created a nation of Scarface wannabees that look at death as an occupational hazard.

The police and the gangs will kill anyone or anything that gets in the way of them making money.

Police and gangs, two sides of the same coin.

Both are in it for the money and the glory.

Now the gangs of Chicago have absolutely no fear of the police and do drive bys at will.

As history always repeats itself, It already seems the gangs have exceeded the St Valentines Day massacre.

Hypocrisy led to the repeal of prohibition.

The repeal generated enormous sums of much needed tax revenue, and weakened the base of organized crime.

And that's how today's drug war can be ended.

By simply ceasing fire from the government side and taxing the drug dealers.

Who inevitably would become corporations that control the entire industry.

And the citizens could put away their bullet proof vests.

War zone.

Worse than Iraq.

More people die in the US every day from the drug was than from the daily death toll from Iraq

In the UK much less of the police have guns. They don't have the homicide and violence rates that we have, but as they are adding more guns every day, the death and violence is increasing in their country.

The criminals will match whatever amount of force that is thrown at them.

Family of man killed by police wants FBI probe

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A relative of a man killed by Shreveport police has asked the FBI to look into the shooting.

Jimmerlynn Glover told The Times (http://bit.ly/Rc6A2L ) that police have yet to provide the family with details of what led to the death of her 22-year-old nephew, Deeric Bailey. Glover said two witnesses report Bailey was defenseless as officers opened fire on him along Interstate 20.

"The girl who was in the car with him said she remembers one shot being fired during the chase," Glover said. "Then the witness on the TV, we don't even know him, said Deeric stopped and the officers then riddled the car with bullets."

Glover said she called the FBI on Monday to request that it look into the case.

"I want to know why did it take that much force for an unarmed man?" she said. "He didn't have a gun. They do that in Hollywood and the movies, not on the streets of Shreveport.

"If his car was riddled with bullets, I want to know how many bullets did his body take?"

A spokesman for the FBI did not immediately return a telephone call for comment Monday.

The chase early Saturday began shortly before 4 a.m. when Officer Jennifer Monereau tried to stop a tan 2000 Lincoln Town Car on a traffic violation. The driver sped off and eventually was westbound on I-20.

Police say the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to strike a concrete barrier alongside the interstate highway, then ignored commands to surrender. The driver tried to drive away as officers exited their patrol cars and approached the crashed vehicle on foot. Police say the driver nearly ran down a passenger who had jumped out of the vehicle.

Another officer, identified as Hai Phan, fired multiple shots, wounding the driver, who eventually drove the car to a stop alongside the top of an embankment beyond the interstate shoulder. The driver was taken to LSU Hospital in Shreveport, where he was later pronounced dead.

Monereau was treated for unspecified minor injuries.

Shreveport police confirm that Monereau and Phan are on routine paid administrative leaving pending an inquiry into the slaying.

Police Chief Willie Shaw has asked the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office to join the investigation.

"I can tell you there was only one officer who fired a weapon. But, to make sure, the other officer is on leave while the investigation is under way," said police Sgt. Bill Goodin, assistant to the chief. "Like any other officer-involved shooting, the chief has contacted the district attorney's office."

"This is an unfortunate situation for all involved and our prayers are with the officers and the family of the deceased," Shaw said in a statement Monday.

Bailey leaves behind two children. Described as outgoing, he was a family man who enjoyed fishing and playing dominoes, Glover said.

"My nephew was a good person," she said. "Why he ran from the police, I don't know."

The shooting has sparked a community outcry. On Sunday, family and friends of Bailey gathered at Airport Park protesting the Shreveport Police Department. Bailey's friend Billy Stewart organized the event and a petition that has about 600 signatures, Glover said.

LAKE CITY, Fla -- The investigation continues in Lake City after a man was killed by police after a disturbance call early Tuesday morning.

Three officers are now on administrative leave.

Action News spoke exclusively to 30-year-old Jeramey Sweeny's family. Now Jeramey's girlfriend is also sitting down exclusively with Action News.

"I was holding him saying please wake up Jeramey please wake up. This is not happening," said Nicole Maldonado.

For Maldonado, the wounds are fresh. Just three days ago, Sweeny was shot dead by a Lake City Police officer on the doorstep of the apartment they shared. A makeshift memorial now rests where Jeramey took his final breath.

But inside apartment 203, Maldonado can't wipe his final moments from her mind.

"He had his gun and he was standing right here actually. He cocked it and I had this door propped open and I was half out and I said Jeramey no don't and before I could say anything else he already went around me and as soon as he came around me the cop yelled gun and started shooting. The first shot I dropped down like this. And I didn't move until the shooting stopped. Once the shooting stopped I looked over and I saw Jeramey laying there and I dropped my phone and I got on him and I was just holding him."

Nicole says her ex boyfriend also lived here. And the night he died tension turned into an all out fight between the men. It was only after her ex's brother came inside and began punching Jeramey that she called 911 for help. She says the brother took off and Jeramey tried to follow when he walked out that door at the exact wrong time.

"I hope and pray that justice will be served," she said. While her ex and his brother didn't pull the trigger, she thinks they deserve to be charged.

Lake City Police tell Action News they're waiting for the FDLE to wrap up the investigation then Lake City investigators will complete their own. Right now, no charges have been filed against the brothers.

A service is now set for Jeramey. It's happening Saturday September 1 at 3 p.m. at Gateway-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

PLACENTIA – Authorities on Tuesday identified the man killed during a SWAT standoff during which police say he pointed a double-barreled shotgun at officers as Joseph Paul Oregero.

Oregero, 57, of Placentia, was shot by SWAT officers from Fullerton and Brea after he was believed to have pointed the shotgun at officers, Placentia police Detective Corinne Loomis said.

Oregero, who police said had an outstanding warrant, was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead a short time later.

The standoff began shortly before 3 p.m. Monday when Oregero, who was being followed by members of a multi-agency auto-theft task force, got out of a van and ran into a trailer behind a home in the 100 block of Orchid Drive, near North Bradford Avenue, police said.

Members of the task force were in the area looking for a stolen vehicle when they spotted Oregero driving around several times in a van, Loomis said.

"When they ran the plate, it came back to (Oregero) and showed a warrant," Loomis said, adding that officers contacted him and asked his name. Oregero gave his middle name and ran to the trailer, Loomis said.

"The officers backed away when they heard the sound of what they believed to be the racking of a shotgun," Loomis said.

A SWAT team composed of members of several North County departments was called out as police tried to negotiate with Oregero, police said.

During the standoff, police say they were contacted by Oregero's friends, who claimed that he had an open warrant, was armed with a shotgun and did not want to return to jail. Oregero's friends indicated he would "kill or be killed," Loomis said.

Crisis negotiators tried to contact Oregero but were reportedly unsuccessful.

Police say the standoff ended when Oregero pointed a shotgun at the SWAT officers. Fearing for their safety, the officers fired at Oregero, Loomis said.

The shotgun was recovered by police and no officers were injured.

Oregero lived in the trailer where the standoff and shooting took place.

According to Orange County Superior Court Records, a Joseph Paul Oregero with the same birth date pleaded guilty in 2009 to one count of felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell. He was sentenced to 75 days in jail and three years' probation.

Loomis said Oregero had a no-bail warrant stemming from a probation violation of his 2009 conviction.

The Orange County District Attorney's Office is investigating the shooting, as is routine for shootings involving police officers.

"We'll be investigating the conduct of the officers involved to determine if there is any criminal culpability on the part of the officers," said Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Orange County District Attorney's Office.

An administrative Placentia police investigation is under way involving all of the North County SWAT agencies, which include Placentia, Fullerton, Brea, La Palma, La Habra and Cal State Fullerton.

As the number of homicides has climbed 22 percent this year in San Antonio, the death of Isaac Champion in April is one of six that was ruled “justified.”

He and his girlfriend had been fighting when she called the police, but he left before they arrived so he could cool off, his mother said.

When he returned, the fight resumed and the woman sent a text message to a friend, Krystan Rios, asking for help, according to a police report.

It was Rios, 21, who would fatally shot Champion, 20, after the two struggled over a gun in his waistband.

She told police the shooting was an act of self-defense: she was in fear for her life, she said.

Rios was not charged in connection with Champion's death, and the incident is one of six justifiable homicides from the first half of 2012. He leaves behind a 1-year-old daughter, Channel.

“They closed the case and let her walk away,” said Champion's mother, Irene Solis, 38. “Everybody remembers his laugh, his smile. His daughter was his pride and joy — he loved that little girl to death.”

Sixty one people were killed in San Antonio between January and June 30 in incidents classified as murders, manslaughters, justified homicides and officer-involved homicides.

That's up from 50 in the same period last year, based on statistics compiled by the San Antonio Express-News, following what experts say is a national pattern.

“The thing that concerns me is that if there were a particular location or a group of individuals causing a lot of murders, creating a pattern, those are easier to predict and easier to strategize on stopping,” Police Chief William McManus said. “The trend is that there is no trend — (homicides) are pretty much all over the map this year.”

Since July 1, SAPD investigated another 11 homicides in the city, one of which involved a police officer who killed a suspect.

San Antonio, like the rest of the U.S., has seen a rise in officer-involved killings as well as homicides categorized as “justified,” under the years-old “Castle Doctrine” that allows people to use deadly force in certain circumstances.

All of the SAPD officers involved in shootings before July 1 have been cleared of any wrongdoing by the Bexar County district attorney's office, McManus said. In all of last year, there were no officer-involved fatalities.

“Nationally, we've seen an alarming trend where suspects are no longer giving up, they're starting to attack,” said Mike Helle, president of the local police union. “Statistically, we're seeing more actors who are taking out violence against police officers.”

Killings in the U.S. were down 2 percent in 2011,according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reporting statistics, which omit justifiable homicides from annual totals. But after the first half of this year, experts say the U.S. is experiencing a rise in slayings.

One pattern criminologists have seen is more justified slayings in Texas and other states whose laws allow citizens to arm themselves to protect their life or property if faced with a deadly threat. “People are not being prosecuted when they've acted in self-defense, and that may be giving people more confidence to use deadly force when they have to,” said Michael L. Seigel, director of the Criminal Justice Center at the University of Florida.

Ruled justified

In 2007, state Sen. Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio, authored changes to Senate Bill 378 to allow people to defend themselves at any location where they have a right to be.

Texas' amended law lacks a clause that encouraged restraint, similar to other “Stand Your Ground” laws in states including Florida, where Trayvon Martin, 17, was fatally shot by a neighborhood watchman in February.
