Man arrested after dog bites two people SCHENECTADY — A city man is facing charges after his dog allegedly bit two people last week. A dog belonging Omar Van Ness, 33, allegedly bit a mother and daughter Aug. 8 while they were visiting his 1213 Fourth Ave. residence. One victim had multiple bite wounds in her left thigh and leg and the other was bitten on her left hand. Both required medical attention at Ellis Hospital, according to papers filed in court. Van Ness was charged Tuesday with a misdemeanor of unlawful behavior of a dog, which is a black-and-white female pit bull mix named Tippey. City Assistant Corporation Counsel Carl Falotico said Van Ness appeared in court Wednesday and the case was adjourned to Aug. 29. In the meantime, Falotico will interview the victims and the animal control offi cer. He said these charges can be pleaded down to a violation of harboring a dangerous dog with the stipulation that the person not own a dog for one year. In some cases, prosecutors can ask for the dog to be euthanized. Falotico said Van Ness had two dangerous dog charges last year stemming from a different dog but could not provide more information about the disposition of those cases. — Michael Goot
When are City "leaders" going get tough on this pit bull menace? 24X7 animal control officers, pit bull round ups, closing pit bull accessories stores, stop allowing dangerous pits into town. Now out of State pits are moving to Mt Pleasant. McCheese and his DEM stooges refuse to do anything about this issue. Like the DEM deficit, gangs, City vehicle fleet, City free phone plan, Downtown tax exemptions, Lower State Street, etc, etc...

This man has TWO PREVIOUS charges against him for dog bites! Do you really think that that he could give a rats a** about the people in this community???
On that note, with the inability of the City Council to do any of the above, seems like they don't give a rats a** either.
The city is basically a free-for-all, people in charge seem to be paralyzed. No one knows anything of anything. Where is the paper trail of these issues? Anyone qualified to follow it?

Learn to protect yourself, it's only going to get worse. The systems will not be able to manage the social and financial breakdown.
So if a pitbull is attacking a loved one............does the victims family/friends have the right to shoot the dog if they own a 'legal' firearm?

They are DEM morons that stayed behind when everyone else fled. And it's WORSE than has been reported. A case by Central Park with an elderly couple on a porch. A pit bull got loose killed their collie and got inside the house biting both of them. Another case also on Mt P where an off duty trooper shot one charging him. The owners went wild; "It's a good dog--it never hurt nobody." BS. Blame the Gazetto and Wayne Bennett who refuse to support properly funding animal control. The Mayor should resign in disgrace.
I'm thinking maybe the Mayor's " they're going to love me in 2 years", ambitious plan is in need of serious overhaul. Things seem to have really gone off the deep end since that came out. So far nothing of any consequence accomplished.

Damn right they do

What a plan? These DEM idiots are now foreclosing on 700 homes and pushing families/churches into the streets. Within a year the State will have to appoint a fiscal control board. In 8 months all the DEMS have done is increase spending, increasing the speed of implosion. They are caught between a rock and a hard place. They cannot offend the public employee unions the only ones still supporting them. The pit bulls issue is just another one that the DEMS keep kicking down the road. Someone will die because of dereliction of duty.
