LIVINGSTON, N.Y. — A 32-year-old Schenectady woman was arrested Wednesday by state police after she falsely claimed her elderly mother had tried to kill her and planted fake evidence at the scene in the town of Livingston, state police said.
Senior Investigator Donald Bailey of the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation said police arrested Tiffany Rinchere Wednesday and charged her with felony tampering with physical evidence and two misdemeanors: falsely reporting an incident and making a punishable false written statement.
Bailey said Rinchere on Tuesday at 4 p.m. called state police and claimed to be the victim of an attempted murder in the town of Livingston.
He said troopers responded to the scene on county Route 10 and interviewed Rinchere, who told them her mother had tried to shoot her with a handgun.
However, Bailey said, as police continued the investigation they determined Rinchere had fabricated the entire incident.
He said she planned the incident and planted physical evidence, including ammunition casings at the scene, to make it appear the event actually had happened.
Bailey said Rinchere was issued a ticket to appear in Livingston Town Court.
