Heard today that the parking lot behind Proctors is losing money so they may close it.  Can see it now.  Entrances blocked off and weeds growing through the cracks..  See downtown behind all the nice facades....

They wanted FOOT traffic right from the beginning. The parking lots were nothing more than a pipe dream that went bad. They should have been privatized right from the get go. Let capitalism capitalize on the need...if indeed there ever was one.

At one time, the parking lot directly behind Proctor's was supposed to be developed with retail/office buildings.  If memory serves me correctly, the building that the State Lottery is in was one of 3 building originally planned for the site.  The other 2 buildings were never built --- and since it doesn't actually make sense to close a parking lot -- maybe there is something "in the works" for that site.

FREE PARKING FOR PROCTOR'S PATRONS

COURTESY OF THE TIMES UNION

SCHENECTADY, NY---Beginning May 1, 2007 patrons of Proctor's Theatre will be parking for free in the downtown Schenectady parking garage just steps from the newly renovated and expanded theatre.

The Times Union, in partnership with Proctor's and Metroplex will provide  free parking to Proctor's ticket holders at the Metroplex Parking Garage, 220 Broadway, located adjacent to Proctor's.
The free parking will be available to all Proctor's patrons for all Proctor's events beginning May 1, 2007.

Mark Aldam, Publisher of the Times Union, stated, "As Proctor's expands its stage capacity and furthers its' position as one of the premiere performing arts centers in the region, the Times Union is delighted to partner with Proctor's to enhance the experience of visiting the theatre for all of its stage performances and its new Extreme Screen film showings.  Proctor's expansion is exciting for the Capital Region and we are pleased to be a part of the experience,"  Aldam said.

Philip Morris, Proctor's CEO stated, "Proctor's, and most certainly our patrons, appreciate the generosity of the Times Union.  We are very fortunate to have an enormous parking garage next to the theatre and now with the ability to offer it to our patrons at no cost, we are eliminating one of the few concerns expressed about coming to the theaters!"

The free parking will be available only in the Broadway garage.  All other lots will continue to charge a fee. The parking garage and the parking lots surrounding Proctor's are owned and operated by Metroplex.

Ray Gillen, Chair of Metroplex said, "Downtown Schenectady is fast becoming a center for arts and entertainment anchored by Proctor's, the new GE Theater featuring the only wide screen film format in the region and our new downtown cinema.  We have plenty of great parking near the theater and now due to the sponsorship of the Times Union, we are able to offer free parking in our parking garage to show goers."

For further information, contact Proctor's Theatre at 382-3884.

What about the TU?
Perhaps it was the TU and METROPLEX/GILLEN that had a spat.

Closing the parking lot right behind Proctors?

Oh that will virtually eliminate the handicapped from attending Proctors.   The handicapped can't walk from the parking garage.   Will Morris provide wheelchairs, paid for with his own money?   But wait, can a wheelchair get to Proctors from the garage in winter?

Oh as DV will say, drop the person off on the State St side.   Well, he would be the type that would drop off an elderly relative to be alone for the time it takes to drive around looking for a parking spot elsewhere downtown, then walk to Proctors, yep, he would leave some elderly relative alone for a half hour or so.   Elderly people could have dementia and left alone while the friend or relative goes to park  could result in the elderly person walk off or something.

Oh, so DV says the parking lot will get developed.   So, another new building paid for by the homeowners in the city while they are being cited for code violations, they have no money to repair their homes because they are paying for the new  buildings downtown---but in DV's socialist mind, yet another taxpayer paid building would be wonderful.   Another multimillion dollar assessed buildig and the taxpayers will have to pay the taxes, right DV?

Wait I understand now.   DV cheers for all the government businesses downtown - that is socialism.

By taxing the people to pay for these, by financially penalizing the homeowners who can't afford to fix their code violations, and then they can't afford to pay the penalty which gets added to the tax bill, but because they are paying the taxes for the downtown buildings too, their tax bills are so high, well, they are and will (in increasing numbers) lose their homes, well, private ownership of homes is NOT what the socialists want.

Hold on to your wallets County residents.  If Metro Ray isn't going to foot the bill for Proctors parking, fat Morris will be lobbying the County to pay for their parking lot.

For the sake of the mentally disturbed, literately-challenged nayboob who apparently couldn't actually comprehend my original post, I am reposting it and highlighting the key words that he/she apparently couldn't understand or - due to his/her being a pathological liar - chose to ignore:

Oh by the way -- that original proposal that I was writing about was made BEFORE Metroplex came into existence.

It seems almost impossible to derail a good anti metroplex rant once it gets rolling.

Just begs the question....

How the hell do you loose money with a parking lot?

Let me think,

a pay lot for parking,

next to a free parking garage...

I have no idea.
