On August 3rd,  I think Joe was trying to warn any one on the message board to be aware
of police checking parked cars near Villa Italia.

60 posts later, this thread has gone in several different directions, but to Joe... who was trying to keep us
from getting a parking ticket...
THANKS!

I don't think people are stupid.  People should be given the information that they need to make informed decisions.   There is no way that any individual would know the nutritional content of EVERY menu item offered by EVERY restaurant in the world.  There is absolutely nothing wrong with requiring every restaurant to post the nutritional information of its menu items.

Furthermore - if we use your ill-logic .. we should not have laws or ordinances requiring ANYTHING.  Let people build their homes out of paper and heat them with an open flame fire -- if that is what they want to do.

Obviously you never took health classes in school, or slept through everything except s*x ed.    There is NO WAY that EVERY restaurant would have to list the nutritional info of it's menu items.   A menu would be as thick as a book. Or it would take up a whole wall!    YOU have just proven that you don't even know what makes up the information on nutritional values.   It is NOT a "one-liner" such as number of calories.

Nutrition information means:
Serving size
# of Calories
# of Calories from fat
# grams of fat
     # grams of saturated fat
     # grams trans fat
# mg of cholesterol
# mg of sodium
# grams carbs
     # grams dietary fiber
     # grams of sugar
# grams of protein
Then for these above the % of daily value.....but is that the value for you and your gut?   Or is it for an elderly person?   Or is it for a child?   A teen?   An adult?    A dieter?   For Laura Lafrate?   A diabetic?   For someone with high blood pressure?   Or is that for someone whose blood pressure runs on the low side?   Is it for a couch potato?   Or a person who rides a bike 10 miles a day to work and 10 miles back?   Is it for the person who goes to the gym faithfully every day?
Vitamin A   __%
Vitamin B   __%
Etc with the vitamins
Calcium     __%
Iron    __%

I just RANDOMLY looked up a local restaurant.   Look at their menu.  Just take a look at it.  Most of the menu selections, particularly the dinners, contain a couple words.   Now tell us DV, tell us HOW a restaurant is supposed to list ALL the above info for EACH menu section???????  And then, tell us which person above (described) the nutrition label would be geared to?   An "average" person.   What is "average"   And then think about having to list nutrition information for a salad as many times as there are different salad dressings and then add more different "boxes" of nutrition info for whether the salad has lite dressing, low sodium dressing, etc.

http://www.pettasrestaurant.com/menu/main-menu.html

Come on DV, grow up and become an adult.   Go for a physical (check-up) with your doctor, a complete preventive visit with lab work, then make an appointment to see a nutritionist and take the results of the doctor visit and lab tests with you so you know what you can have more of and what you need to cut back on.

Then once you know what nutrition value is SPECIFIC TO YOU, then bring a nutrition calculator/book with you so you can look up the items that are on the menu and figure it out for yourself.   It won't be 100% exact but still will be close.

We don't need restaurants to be providing book-sized menus just because you are too lazy to educate yourself about nutrition and calculate nutrition values yourself

Apparently, you are jealous that some folks can work from their homes.

Yes, Mr. Santabarbara is the better choice and their is no evidence that he would be pushing for regulations against Chick-Fil-A.   As for the county legislature's passing a requirement that eating establishments post nutritional information --- I believe that was a good thing to do  EXCEPT that it only applied to chain restaurants.  I believe EVERY restaurant should post nutritional information for their patrons to be able to review and make healthy food choices.

they can post all the nutritional info they want....no one even knows if it true or they take it at face value....
our food supply system and our reliance on it has made us SICK....

paying others for supplying your food then demanding a nutritional list is like banging your head against a wall
and expecting different results.....

Mr. Santabarbara is all about the village and others doing for him/constituents.....

legislating community makes for lazy, self centered, narcissistic plebs.....
community is natural and should be LOOOOOOOOSELY legislated....NOT feel-good legislation
it leads to a paradox...
it's like taking meds with massive side effects then you have to take other meds to counteract the side effects of the
ones you took...

always assume that others making your food are NOT in it for your health
always be ready for the rug to be pulled from under you

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Very good DV!  You've just illustrated the success of the government school curriculum.  You are not alone in  your thinking DV, it is the general consensus in America that people must be GIVEN information and not seek out information and discover the answer.  Those of us that pay attention understand that through standardized testing, multiple guess, and true false conditioning, the majority of Americans are unable to SEEK OUT information, even the most critical and life sustaining information like food nutrition. People are taught to sit and wait until an authority reveals this all important information.

MikeChristine also gave a great example of how nutrition has become so scientific and has been explained in such a complex manner with percentages and daily values and vitamins and minerals, calories, carbohydrates, protein, fat, saturated fat, that the lay person becomes so confused that they feel it is better left up to a "professional to tell them what they should eat.  Nutrition and eating really isn't that complicated, but people like to believe it is.

This movement toward government mandate of nutritional information on menus is just another crutch preventing personal responsibility and self reliance.  If people can't figure out what to eat without knowing how many grams of fat "per serving", our society is really in trouble.

If you think it is a good idea, then tell us exactly how a rest. would go about doing that in practical and detailed terms, and tell us how soon the chef could get a "daily special" that he just created onto the menu and at what cost in terms of time, effort and expense. Then please tell us what that cost would translate into for the added cost per plate for the average dish. You and A-jello have OBVIOUSLY thought this through and know EXACTLY how this would be implemented in a place like Ferrari's or La Famiglia so do enlighten us...

Leave it to the nayboobs - who brag about how much time they sit in the donut shop filling their faces - - to take a simple idea and twist it with their asinine comments.  The fact is that we require chain restaurants to post basic nutritional information  (calories, carbs, etc.) and that provides helpful useful information ----- so that idiots like the nayboobs would actually see - for example - that a Big Mac is actually a better choice than the Buffalo Chicken Salad.
And if we require it of chain restaurants it is not too much to require it of the other restaurants.

(For the record, I have not eaten a Big Mac or any fast food hamburger -- except for one hamburger at Whataburger last August  -- in years.)

HHHMMMMM...is that like a thread about parking meters being turned into your personal culinary tastes and nutritional rantings instead of what the intent was to begin with????

Hmmmm ... like cry yourself a river and then go jump in it.  People will discuss what they choose to discuss and not what you dictate.

But to tie it back to your original post -- just break down and put the damn quarter in the meter -- stop being such a cheapskate.

I don't need the nutritional values list at McDonald's to make me aware that EVERYTHING at McDonald's is SH!T.  I don't care if it's the buffalo chicken salad, the Big Mac, or a yogurt parfait - it is all processed, sugary, greasy, wilted SH!T.  And I am pretty sure everybody that goes to McDonald's or any fast food joint knows it, and if they don't, they should be taken out back and euthanized because they must be clinically brain dead and a menu listing nutritional values isn't going to make a difference.

Since you are so cheap -- you should go to the Golden Corral --- no parking meters --- and it is all you can eat.

And you never make a typo, right....and if it's so lame, why did you bother to stop in and post your stupid gibberish? You are the king of veering off topic, so why don't you get over it. Of course this whole topic is a right wing commie neo-nazi political coverup anyway, isn't it????
You seem to enjoy having conversations with me on here, so I guess it must be a joy for you, even though I call you out for being the miserable grump that hates everything in the world that doesn't fit into your narrow mind.
