Schenectady County was the ONLY County in the 7 County region to see 2nd quarter 2012 sales tax revenues TANK. No other County has Metrograft nor a useless DSIC. As usual the Gazetto tries to hid another embarrassment to Death Ray and inefficient IDA's that the State has tried to close.

It is obvious that DSIC and Metrograft are total failures that are collapsing sales tax revenues. This money will have to made up with higher property taxes and fees since the DEMS refuse to cut any local budgets. Terrible news for County property owners also facing a new County Home.

Then you know that the only way to fix any type of problem like this is... to expand the authority of the Metroplex.  Time to give them a full 1/2 or 1 % of the sales tax.  The only way to make it work is to give it more money.  Right DVOR?  FEED THE BEAST.

Give them more power to trample property owners rights. Socialism doesn't work. It's the record taxes stupid. Time to end Metrograft/return the sales tax money to the localities to ease the confiscatory property tax burden. ATTENTION CITY PROPERTY OWNERS: Your new improved School taxes are in the mail! Up 5% not the Cuomo/State cap limit 2%. Tax cap? What ta cap? The school bored understands the "importance of high taxes". Of imploding property values!

It xant continue much longer.  Suprised we havent hit the tipping point sooner.  Moodys Downgrade and the State Audit need to happen sooner rather than later.

Oh, there is a "tax cap."    But most people don't have a clue what that phrase means.

The DEMS did institute a "cap" that has some REMOTE connection to the word "tax."     They did a "tax LEVY cap."    The levy, again, is the amount of money that needs to be collected in total through the tax BILLS.

The cap on the LEVY does NOT cap the percent of increase in the tax RATE, nor does it cap the increase of the tax BILLS.

And of course in Schenectady---especially in the city--BECAUSE OF THE DEMS WILD UNCONTROLLED SPENDING, the tax BILLS increase FAR GREATER than the "tax cap."   Thanks to DV's dem buddy Andrew who FAILED at controlling taxes, and because of the Schenectady Dem leaders, most all of downtown is exempt from paying property and school taxes.  But the dollar figure of the tax LEVY is then spread among ONLY the homeowners and the businesses that pre-date the mayor of BS.   That causes the rate to rise FAR GREATER than the "tax cap."   And worse yet is that in Schenectady where the current Mayor Darth Vader REFUSES to do another reassessment, many many homeowners are paying way much more than their fair share of taxes.

The EVIDENCE that the city NEEDS to be reassessed completely is proven by the ACTUAL MARKET VALUES reflected by the actual sales prices, and even more so by the EVIDENCE from the successful tax certorari lawsuits against the city by homeowners who grieve their assessments to the assessment board (political cronies of the dems) and the board doesn't even look at the grievance---Mayor Darth Vader, as did the Mayor of BS before him---obviously directed the board members to totally ignore anything and instead just to render the decision "denied-inadequate data."

THANK GOD for homeowners who have the intelligence (and money) to take the city to court because they are WINNING BIG.   Just for an example, take a house in the neighborhood that DV left when he fled the city--Mt Pleasant---there's a homeowner who the board told them "denied, insufficient data" and the homeowner took the city to court.   It's 1114 Fourth Ave.   The city claimed the value of the house was $87,000 (i.e., the city said the house would sell for $87,000).   The homeowner knew better than these Dems running the city, took the city to court, and got the assessment reduced to $43,000.   Assuming a STAR exemption on the house, that homeowner won big because IF the homeowner did not take the city to court, the owners school tax bill would be roughly $1,230 (with STAR) and after getting the assessment lowered, the school tax bill would be only just under $300.   Now, the problem is that the neighbors of that successful homeowner, if those neighbors did not sue the city (or did not even grieve their assessment) than if their houses were also similar and assessed for roughly $87,000, then they have tax bills (with STAR) of roughly $1,230 but they are paying more than they should be, obviously.   However, if a complete reassessment was undertaken, the homeowners who took the city to court would see a rise in their tax BILL after reassessment was completed while those other homeowners would see a decrease in their tax BILL in that first year following reassessment.  However at point, all homeowners would be paying more than their fair share because they have to cover the cost of the super rich millionaires and political cronies of the dems downtown who don't pay any taxes.

The city NEEDS to be COMPLETELY reassessed, however Mayor Darth Vader REFUSES to do that because it would be an embarrassment to him for the rest of his life as a reassessment would prove, would be the EVIDENCE, that the spending and the policies of the dems in Schdy, their theft from the taxpayers, their uncontrolled spending downtown have caused a drastic reduction in property values, and the mayor and his crony dems don't want the public to know that.   I mean really, can you imagine someone from out of the area to takes a job transfer to the local area and begins looking at buying a home, and looks at Schenectady and sees that in 2009 a house was worth $100,000 and today it's worth only $50,000.   There's not a buyer around who would decide to buy IN the city, and they would further be blown away when they see that the tax BILL for a $50,000 house would be in excess of $4,000 per year.  And knowing that home values are plummeting big time, NO ONE would buy a house IN the city to be underwater as soon as they put the key in the door following the closing.

"Having sales tax tank is part of a renaissance. Besides, sales tax numbers don't mean anything. Obviously those are little sales that went away- little nickle and dime things, plus we are 200% ahead of where we were before Metroplex was in existence."

The above will be part of the lies that Ray Gillen will spin in defense of his shoddy work and utter failure handing out the economic spoils the democrat party gives through favoritism.

I guess the lack of sales tax revenue from Dolce Vita (along with entertainment taxes), really hurt the county as a whole.

Maybe, just maybe, if taxes, regulations and zoning wasn't so crazy in this county, more businesses would look to come here - that is, other than pizza joints, gin mils and non profits.

Come on, who needs retail!!

Why aren't those Bombers burritos bringing in the big sales tax dollars?

How about the $4.00 piece of cake at the Proctors pretentious wifi-charging coffee slop? Not helping the County either?

Not enough State workers buying goods downtown....oh wait...are the State workers there yet? No?????

Not sure where the  Ill-Informed Pathological Liar Cowardly Cuckoo gets his/her information.  I did not "flee" the city" - the FACT is that my ancestors lived in Rotterdam since the early 1900's NOT within the city limits and the neighborhood that I last lived in the city was NOT Mont Pleasant.

So the cuckoo bird who never left the nest lived in a rental with mama and papa and then after they passed, he still could not be a grown man supporting himself and living like a normal ADULT in his own place.

Quite embarrassing for a cuckoo bird who has never left the nest to be reading posts by two adults to grew up and moved out of our mama's house right after college, then became a happily married couple (long time now) and are long time homeowners (and thus taxpayers as documented in official records of the town and county), a couple with children who will become independent adults after college.

Quite embarrassing for a cuckoo bird who has never left the nest to read posts by a pair of adults who are smart, can speak WITH EVIDENCE of the effect of taxes on the homeowners, who can speak WITH EVIDENCE at the terrible effect on city that the uncontrolled spending on downtown has had, who can speak WITH EVIDENCE how the political cronies steal from the rest of the homeowners (such as Morris who ILLEGALLY is getting two STAR exemptions), etc.

Quite embarrassing for a adult man has not left the nest to be unable to provide one shred of evidence of his claim that county taxes are lower than 50 years ago, so he has to try to apply the description of himself to others.

How long are you gonna live like a mama's boy?
