SCHENECTADY — The city police department and county prosecutor’s office have received a federal grant to continue combating gangs in the city. The Department of Justice Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant will bring $55,492 to fund a confidential investigator in the county District Attorney’s Office. The main objective for this position will be to investigate and prosecute recently identifi ed violent street gangs that have formed within Schenectady. Part of the funds will also support Schenectady police in combating specific criminal activity. Both agencies have utilized the grant funding in the past and continue to use it to curtail gang-related activity.
