Two friends and I went to Apostrophe's, the coffee shop at Proctors the other day  We brought the laptop and netbooks.  You now have to purchase something to have access to the Wi-Fi there.  We always buy a cup of coffee and sometimes the $4 a piece cake anyway so no big deal. Gonna see what happens if I just buy a cup of coffee.  I am not sure if there is a certain $ amount that has to be spent. But I do know $6 will get you in.

Hey what ever happened to that free Wi-Fi that was promised for the downtown.  Anyone use it?

Oh something else I thought was real cute.  To get a receipt for your purchase there is no paper receipt, they email it to ya. What if I don't want to share my email address with them?  I don't want to be on their list.

and WHO makes money off this?????    The BIG guy making that LAVISH $200,000+ taxpayer subsidized salary  who refuses to pay taxes on the FOR PROFIT business he has, AND who is STEALING from the homeowners in the city by ILLEGALLY having TWO STAR exemptions on his TWO houses!

Make you buy something in order to use the wi-fi, but then REFUSE to give you a receipt---it MUST be e-mailed so Fat Morris gets your e-mail address and then sells it for money. DUH!   Watch your e-mail for an increase in spam

The idea is to create several e-mail addresses that you NEVER use to order anything or e-mail friends.  Keep a notebook with a list of the addresses.   When asked for your e-mail address, such as at Morris' FOR PROFIT BUSINESS, give an e-mail you haven't given out yet.  Then notice the spam that starts not long after!

Now to make sure this is all reported to the IRS and the state tax dept to make sure he declares how much he's getting from selling your e-mail and is he avoiding paying taxes just like he's avoiding paying school taxes!

Competition…finally!
February 24, 2011 at 2:09 pm by Will King

This is how angry TWC has made most people.

I have for the longest time stood up for Time Warner Cable (TWC). I really do like their services, a lot.

Unlike many others I have not had any problems with my DVR or cable box or my Road Runner. Everything works fine…but damn it’s just so expensive.

The reason it’s expensive? No competition. Competition breads, at least, some form of affordability which right now is not even close to a reality. TWC has, over the last couple of years, proceeded to rape their own costumers of their hard earned cash.

Now word is coming down that Verizon is targeting Schenectady County (including the city of Schenectady) for cable TV, along with its FiOS Internet and phone products.

The Schenectady City Council will hold a public hearing on the plan Monday and could approve a franchise during its meeting that night. After approval of the franchise by the state Public Service Commission, Verizon would be able to start selling cable TV in the city, along with its FiOS Internet and phone products, which are currently available only in certain parts of the Capital Region.

If the council approves the franchise during this meeting Schenectady would be poised to be the first major city in the area where FiOS TV will be available.

I cannot begin to even properly express how happy this news makes me. I realize the grass isn’t always greener on the other side, but until now, we haven’t even had another plot of grass to consider. Just this one, lonely patch of brown, slowly dying grass that dogs have pooped on and where people drop their garbage on a consistent basis.

The price increases have become too much for myself and if I am correct, most other people as well.

Verizon FiOS is more than welcome in my neck of the woods. Here’s to hoping the Schenectady City Council will approve the franchise needed for service to begin.

Personally I have no problem with Time Warner.   I fully respect competition.   But it is NOT the task of government to decide what companies are available for us to chose TV service and related stuff.   They should not be involved in any legislation, approvals, etc to decide if a private business may exist.

It is a big deal. Death Ray promised free wi-fi services throughout Downtown and flushed hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on it. Now Fat Morris is charging extra to poor residents for something they already paid for. Typical ripoff. It's about time that cheerleader for DEM implosion finally paid a PILOT like Union College, Boys and Girls Club and Ellis Hospital. Don't buy anything at Fat Morris' socialist coffeehouse. There are two better places that pay taxes across on Jay Street.

Some posters have that Druggy Rush attitude about Proctors and much of downtown.
Just as El Drugo hoped that "Obama fails", insuring that America also fails...
Some on this board seem to hope that "Proctors Fails", taking the rest of downtown with it.

From the Metroplex Website:

Proctors welcomes everyone that frequents downtown be it related to business, shopping, a trip to the movies or a performance, “ said Perazzo. “We encourage students and faculty from the new SCCC downtown campus use APOSTROPHE as a gathering place and take advantage of its amenities such as free wi-fi.”

Guess Perazzo lied.

Box, you're a hypocrite...
All your talk about wanting those ones that can, to pay more for those that can't, I guess doesn't apply to the Proctors block of Schenectady, does it?

The tax dollars spent on Proctors may have been unwise, but now that it's there, it does add to the
city and if downtown succeeds the rest of the city will benefit.

It would seem that the worst case scenario would be to spend all that money to rebuild downtown,
then have it fail now because of lack of support by city residents.

I want downtown to succeed.. I also want downtown to pay its fair share of taxes, so the rest of the city, which is pretty much a war zone, can benefit. The only the people I see that are benefiting from the money spent downtown are the business owners and the patrons, who are mostly from out of the city...since the average city resident can't afford to patronize the businesses.

C'mon 55, take Box's advice.  Once the state robs you of your money, then spends it foolishly by giving it to wealthy landowners, the least you can do is cheer for them and hope it works even though having knowledge of basic economics tells you it will never work.

Metroplex is a regressive tax collected through sales tax.  It takes money from the poor and hands over to the wealthy.  You would think a good liberal would be against such a practice.  But I guess since they already took the money and continue to take the money from the poor, you might as well hope the wealthy millionaires like Galesi and HighBridge Construction succeed and become richer with our money.  We hope they create enough middle and lower class wage slaves to justify keeping the theft going.
