You must be a mind reader to know where all the professors who taught at the private college where I went to college were being aided somehow by the state and taxpayer. I'm also smart enough to know that instead of my union working to benefit our union they give most of our dues money to fund a political ideology that I don't believe in. Were you there when I graduated in 63 to know how my professors education were funded and in fact if the state contributed to it?
~ "I haven't had a kid in school for 30 years and I'm still paying for someone elses kids" That's right... None of us MAKE IT ON OUR OWN. There are some taxpayers who've NEVER had a kid in school, yet they all benefit from everyone's education.
It's compulsory box...People are FORCED to pay...You need to restate it 'None of us ARE LEGALLY ALLOWED TO MAKE IT ON OUR OWN'. You are forced to pay school tax or they will take your property as punishment. People think they own their property, it is only rented. If you don't make your forced contributions, the government will take away your shelter.
Box... lets us all know the next time you take a dump.. It will be refreshing to realize our tax dollars played a part in it
Municipal sewage and water supply... all paid for by tax dollars!

YUP! I was there in 63... paying taxes! I probably in some small way contributed to your education and overall progress in life... just like everyone else.
Do you really think that Taxpayer Dollars DON"T go to support Private Colleges??? Really? You're in for a surprise. ~ State funded College savings plans. ~Federal grants ~State grants ~ Federal scholarships~ and awards ~Federal loans and work study programs Most states (and the Fed Govt) give financial aid loans and grants to students in both private and public colleges. All 50 states have laws that exempt private colleges and other nonprofit organizations such as museums and hospitals from property taxes. Like it or not Shadow... You Didn't Do It ON YOUR OWN!

The government doesn't do it on their own either Box they steal tax payer money to fund all their feel good projects that fail and future generations have to deal with. State savings plans started in 2001, The Higher Education Facilities Act and the Vocational Education Act of 1963 outlined specific federal funding for community colleges. Although federal funding declined with the Reagan Administration, the Higher Education act of 1987 gave commuter college students a cost of living allowance for financial aid approximately equal to that of students of four-year institutions living in dormitories. Also, the Perkins Act of 1991 allowed for articulation agreements between community colleges and high schools, making it possible for high school juniors and seniors to take community college courses. You're a little off on your dates Box no state or federal help to private colleges when I entered college and most of the other financial aid you mention came later as well.

Shadow... You may not have taken advantage of these programs but they were available to both public and private college students for hundreds of years:

In most cases, these scholarships were given out based on what a student achieved by working hard in school. In the case of the loans, they are just that, loans. The government earns interest like any other loan.
You can almost tie anything to "help" if you want to, but let's face it, there are those of us that are exceptional, and those that are not.. Most of us fall somewhere in between.
But let's get back to the original reason for this thread.. Obama said "if you have a business you didn't build that, somebody else made that happen" Regardless of the "help' the owner received, the statement is plain wrong and was uttered to appeal to his audience..an audience most likely filled with non-exceptional people, but voters none the less.
BTW.. somebody better tell Obama that Al Gore invented the internet.

Box I graduated in 1963 most of the things you posted were not available to me or most of the kids in college at the time. I really must gaul you that some people don't need or want government assistance their help comes with too many strings attached.

"Somebody better tell Obama that Al Gore invented the internet." Good one Tbird!
Funny how that quote keeps floating to the surface on any occasion ... but how defensive these Conservatives get when anyone... and I mean anyone, brings up the few thousand "classics" by George Worst Bush. The Conservative One Way Street!

If you had bothered to listen to the clip, Obama makes mention of the government, (the defense department) creating the internet. I figured somebody should tell him who really created it. Unlike you Box, I stay on topic and don't have to call the DNC for my next response. They're probably off lunch, so you should be able to get through to them pretty quick.

Again... Tbirds post:
"Unlike you Box, I stay on topic "
I guess in Tbird's mind... "the DNC on speed dial" is some how pertinent to staying on topic!

It is, since you seem to do it with ANY topic.
