ROTTERDAM — Town police said they found a 1-year-old locked in a closed car at Rotterdam Square mall Friday while the child's baby sitter shopped inside.

With outside temperatures topping 90 degrees, the baby was found in the car with the windows rolled up by a patrolman at about 12:20 p.m., police said. The officer removed a side window to get to the baby and gave first aid until emergency crews arrived.

The baby was taken to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, but did not appear to suffer any serious health issues, police said.

Police said Shanika M. Maxwell, 35, of Robinson Street, Schenectady, left the child in the car for about 43 minutes.

Obviously it is racial discrimination because she was educated on how to safely store a small child. The police need to apologize to Shaniqua.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

"Police said Shanika M. Maxwell, 35, of Robinson Street, Schenectady, left the child in the car for about 43 minutes. Maxwell was charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and released on an appearance ticket.

She is due in court Aug. 13."

This is so pathetic!

This should be considered attempted murder, not child endangerment.

If this was a dog, the community would be outraged and quoting Busters law...but for some reason, our society holds a higher standard of care for a pit bull rather than a 1 year old child.

This woman should have been arrested and put in jail with a considerably high bail.
