Why can’t residents park in front of their homes?

When I retired just over 20 years ago (I’m in my 80s), I volunteered for almost a decade at the local middle school as a mentor for 10 to 16 hours weekly. Keeping with the “Keep Schenectady Beautiful” campaign, I groomed Glenwood Boulevard, devoting many hours. I was happy to contribute; now all I want in return is the right to park in front of my residence.
There is an ally, and most of the time over the years I’ve parked back there at the cost of $2,000-$3,000 damage to my vintage cars. Three boys actually jumped up and down on the roof of my ’93 Caddy, and both the ’91 Chrysler (since scrapped) and the Caddy were badly scratched.
Glenwood Boulevard is a residential street. Recently I was ticketed for overtime parking just outside my apartment. Why, except for snow removal and cleaning, are there parking restrictions for residents? I’m sure there are many residential streets with no restrictions; are we being discriminated against? What legitimate reason could there be for restricting parking for noncommercial vehicles?

Thank You McCheese. It's all about revenue generation for these City DEM morons. Wake up and stop re-electing anyone to local/County offices. They are insane tax and borrow idiots.

Ticketed for "overtime parking" on Glenwood Blvd?    Since when?   I don't even think they have alternate side parking do they?

Those few streets there, they have those alleys in the back to get to "your garage," yes?  Wait, it's dangerous in those alleys.   And the police are off watching their kid bowl, going to dr appts, and actually responding to any of the other many crimes occurring.

But many homes do have a driveway and perhaps a garage.  Oh yeah, you don't want to shovel that long distance into the back yard as the snow comes off the roofs, in order to park off street.   Oh well, that's life in the city.

Streets are public streets, not even the homeowner owns the "parking spot in front of the house" -- the homeowner just pays for it.
So get rid of your car and walk to Ghetto-Chopper and do your grocery shopping and carry it all back by hand.  Wait, there is a bus going down Union St, you can walk the rest of the way.

Residential parking permits in the city?

.

Wait, why can't residents park in front of their homes, i.e. residences?

Let's see, if there is a two family house and two tenants (one up, one down), how many parking spots are in front of the house?

Yeah, can you imagine the daily headlines "city police called to break up fight on ___ St over parking spot in front of house"

Schenectady homeowners' tax dollars at work.

What they should do is get rid of the islands between the lanes on those streets, those streets are very narrow with or without cars parked on the sides. The back alleys are also in bad shape and to narrow to have any real traffic going through there.

Actually, many of the cars that park on Glenwood Blvd are employees from Ellis Hospital.
