Hi. I live in Schenectady but my parents house is in Rotterdam. They are away for a few weeks and I am concerned about them losinv their crop because of the ban on watering. The local news just said there are no water table problems so I do not understand the ban. My parents depend on the garden to provide some of their food for winter. Thank you. Gerri.
I wouldn't worry about it, the ban ends tomorrow and it goes back to odd even days for watering..................if it was my veggy garden I'd be watering all the time irregardless of water restrictions................
Few people seem to following the ban anyways. There are people watering their front lawns all over my neighborhood. Doesn't seem that anyone is enforcing this policy. I'm following it, but if my garden was about to die, I'd give it a quick drink...
Talked to some rotterdamians.......and they said they hadn't heard about any water ban.
And if I had a veggie garden, I would water it as well. It's suppose to rain saturday, so all should be back to normal.

Gerri,
I suggest you contact District 4 Legislator and Schenectady County Chairwomen Judy Dagostino, since less than a week prior to the Rotterdam water restriction was announced, she was bragging in a press release about the "abundant" water supply Schenectady County has. If my memory serves me, Judith is less than a mile from a Rotterdam water tower.

“Schenectady County has some of the best tasting water in the State, as both the City of Schenectady and the Town of Rotterdam have been regional and state champions,” said Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Schenectady County has an abundant supply of great tasting water right out of the tap. This taste test is a chance for each of our towns, villages and the City of Schenectady to compete for the right to say that they have the best tasting water in Schenectady County. The best part of the competition is that our local residents get to choose the winner, so I encourage everyone to come down to the Farmers Market and be the judge.” http://schenectadymetroplex.com/newsArticle.php?id=330
At the risk of being somewhat ridiculous, not to mention thinking out loud, always wondered what the diff. is with a one week water restriction which still allows unlimited showering, toilet flushing, laundry and any other internal water use waste, but rrestricting a 10-15 min. garden watering. I can see the carwash restriction. But what would be wrong in giving up voluntarily some internal water use, and then douse the garden. Granted it would be hard to monitor the transfer of the sacricfice for the garden, but it seems a compromise for saving the veggies. And nothing tastes as good as home grown. Afterthought: How come the carwash's never get restricted? Oh wait loss of revenue, not to mention the water waste which contributes to the shortage.
Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Continue to water your garden and lawn. No one pays any attention to constant DEM morons edicts. Rotterdam has abundant water from our own aquifer. Plant another victory garden until these DEM morons are removed from office. Ask constant candidate/nudge A-Jello about this issue since he's a civil engineer running again for Assembly.
this is Rotterdam - No one cares not the state, not the county, not the town - rotterdam used to be someting to look up to, for those who didnt want city life, but wanted the city conviences, now it is community to take what you want and go!
