Another horrible morning fire in Schenectady. The long vacant Luigi's and a vacant house next door were fully involved according to SFD sources. Damage to both structures is considerable and Luigi's is in danger of total collapse. A sad ending to a famous Schenectady eatery that was once packed with customers and hosted many City events.

The SFD is investigating this fire which is termed "suspicious". Sad ending to the former jewel of Little Italy. A place that hosted so many weddings, church functions and civic ceremonies.

Renaissance people building renaissance fires.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Quoted from Glryinthhighest
Schenectady is undergoing perhaps the greatest Renaissance in the NorthEast . The MAYOR is doing a SPLENDID JOB..

Really Glry aka DV?????????

Then perhaps YOU can explain WHY -- under this so-called "Renaissance," I trust YOU CAN EXPLAIN WHY:

1.   Such a good restaurant failed after it's owner was murdered, I mean, she DID have family and she DID have employees, any of whom could have continued the business.

2.   WHY the city bought it OVER ONE YEAR AGO and it sat VACANT.   NO ONE INTERESTED IN BUYING IT?????     If there is such a growing economy in Schenectady and such a grand renaissance, please explain why NO ONE has been interested in buying the building and opening a business there.

Huh?   Can you answer those questions?????

Of course NOT.

And OF COURSE, you will NOT respond and answer the questions.   It' MUCH TOO EMBARRASSING for a Rotterdam Town planning "official" to even remotely acknowledge that he posts things claiming that everything is so wonderful, but then REFUSES explain WHY no privately funded taxpaying businesses are moving in, refuses to explain WHY the homeowners IN the city have to pay the taxes for the millionaires and dem political cronies downtown, WHY the TAXABLE tax base is PLUMMETING BIG TIME, WHY the taxes AND fees on the financially struggling homeowners are going UP UP UP UP UP UP UP at the SAME TIME that essential, vital, necessary city services are going DOWN DOWN DOWN.

Well?

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

Is this how they're clearing the previously used lands now to do the Renaissance makeovers?

Another renaissance arsonist! Only in Schenectady County-the diversity County! Too small for a County-too big for an insane asylum. Every month another 250 NYC welfare recipients move in for the great bike paths and governmental gin mills.

The city took possession of the building less than a year ago through foreclosure, Shilling said. He said there were preliminary discussions about developing the plot of land. Now the city will be a step closer to having the spot empty. Shilling said the building would be razed within the next few days.

The seclusion and vacancy of the building made it a prime location for squatters. Zimmer said he saw unknown people coming in and out often.

He described the neighborhood as quiet, but said he called the police whenever he saw people around the building because he didn't want anything, such as a fire, to occur.

"It's crazy," he said. "We have too many fires in Schenectady, especially in abandoned houses."

You know the fire on albany st recently, well the windows are still NOT boarded up, and this after the city KNOWS its a place for vagrants to hang out, the same building that has burned before the same building my neighbors body was found in.

Why is it taking so long to raze?  Did they complete their "investigation"?  Was the city insured on that property against fire / loss?  Who pays for it to be razed?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Many cases await arson investigation team
BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Kathleen Moore at 395-3120 or moore@dailygazette.com.

The city’s new arson investigators will have their work cut out for them.
Last year, 48 fires in the city were ruled intentional, and 13 were tricky enough that fi refighters still aren’t sure what happened.
When the city’s investigators take on their first cases, they won’t be starting with a clean slate. In addition to the 13 fires of undetermined origin from last year, they have to finish investigations for 17 other fires. And that’s just last year — there are many other fi res that still need work, as well as all of this year’s suspicious blazes so far.
“Whether it’s following up on an open case or interviewing people on a recent fire, there’s plenty of work,” Chief Michael Della Rocco said.
The City Council is expected to approve the investigators’ new status next Monday. Then they will be able to delve deeper into some cases, combing through insurance records and criminal databases, all of which are available only to law enforcement personnel. The arson investigators will have that status through the District Attorney’s Offi ce.
They already gather evidence — fingerprints and DNA have led to some arrests — and the entire team has the state’s highest arson investigation certification. But until they get law enforcement status, they can’t close cases on their own. They’re not even allowed to interview witnesses once it’s clear a fi re was an arson.
Police are overworked and are willing to give the job to the Fire Department, Della Rocco said. The hope is that fi refighters will be able to close cases more quickly.
