Reactions to water restrictions heating up Town puts brakes on unnecessary water usage to the chagrin of many By Paul Nelson Published 11:13 p.m., Tuesday, July 3, 2012
ROTTERDAM — Leslie Heermance's three great-nieces squealed with delight as she doused them with a garden hose Tuesday at a home on Sunnyside Boulevard across from Town Hall.
Heermance, who was caring for the girls there, said she was unaware of a 72-hour ban on unnecessary water usage imposed Monday afternoon in this Schenectady County suburb.
"I think it's bullcrap because there's enough water," the 49-year-old woman said defiantly. "There's the Hudson, there's the Mohawk."
Rotterdam is one of the first Capital Region towns to announce special water-conservation measures as summer heats up.
The municipal system's water tank levels are at a critical point, Rotterdam Public Works Coordinator Vincent Romano said. He urged residents to avoid watering lawns and other water-related activities that can wait.
The town's code enforcement officer and police are issuing warnings to anyone who flouts the ban that lasts through Friday. After that, the seasonal regulations return, allowing sprinklers on alternating days based on odd- and even- number street addresses.
The Fourth of July may offer some relief, with morning thunderstorms in the forecast and a 60 percent chance of rain on a cloudy day, according to the National Weather Service. Sunshine and temperatures in the 80s are expected to return Thursday.
The town's latest water woes come 10 months after tropical storms Irene and Lee caused second-story flooding in Rotterdam Junction late last summer.
On Tuesday, Lawn Avenue resident Stacy McLean was unaware of the water restrictions, but was more supportive.
"I feel that if it's necessary, I'm fine with complying," said the mother of two children, ages 1 and 5. "It would be nice if the Schenectady and Rotterdam area had better pool access, but there's not a whole lot of places where kids can cool off."
Up the street, the sprinkler system was on at a residence on Lawn Street between Tulip and Aster Streets where nobody was home.........................>>>>.................>>>>...................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....43.php#ixzz1zeXcEjrw
Well, I'll tell you. I'm watering. To heck with it. I am NOT going to risk a fire from a dry lawn when fireworks go off tonight, not everyone is as careful with fireworks at home as many of us are. Others are watering an so will we. If I were my neighbor (who is also watering) I would not risk losing all he vegetables growing in the garden with all the work put into growing them.
And the "excuse" about water level at a critical low point, that IS a LAME a** COP OUT EXCUSE. Why? It's simple common sense. If water levels were "so critically low" then the town would NOT tell us we could start watering again until AFTER the level returns to normal which would result from a good rain.
Like I said, it's very suspicious. It's been dry, we have not had rain so they tell us we can't water for three days. In three days we still will not have had adequate rain. In fact, it doesn't look like their will be ANY adequate rain for the next ten days. But for some unexplainable reason, it will be OK to resume watering again even though there is no rain to replenish the town's water supply.
TOTAL BS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sprinkler is on, have a nice day all, enjoy your 4th, Chris is par boiling the ribs and I'm going back in the pool with the kids! Party time starts at noon.

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent. Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

AH, the need for the Second Water Main from the well heads rears its ugly head yet again - keep unsupported development coming, it will reduce my property taxes
might just be better to disolve/exit Metroplex and keep the sales tax dollars in the Town where they are needed
Talking to each other is better than talking about each other

Problem is that the town doesn't get to make the decision where the sales tax dollars go. What you're saying is what I've always said. Rotterdam is one of the biggest places that sales tax comes into the county. We don't get our fair share.
that is because the voting population of rotterdam is a party of "FOOLS" - the taxes paid property owners reflect this
more appartments means more people who dont directly pay property taxes, who dont give a DAMN and who are willing to join the party
how does west rotterdam seced, take all the water and sewer processing toss the police force and highway dept and join princetown and rent services from the county

True, but we also go ahea and incentivize people for screwing things up. They do such a horrible job, we go ahead and give them a promotion to a higher position. Just look at the fact that the Rotterdam Little League no longer has a home. Who is it that you can blame? Well, it was a person who, on their way out of the Republican Party, and off of the Town Board, became A Democrat, ran away with the money for the sale of the Republican Club, went to the Democrat Party, and ran for County Legislature. That person has now stuck around and done so much for ( or is that to) us, that they let her run the entire show at the County now. And she can't even figure out how to give us more of the sales tax revenue, and she champions a group, funded by sales tax money, that grabs businesses and property value directly from the people who vote her into office constantly due to the fact that she now has the name recognition.

poor cheap a$$ planning...so the gumbas can get to Florida or where every they plan to plant their wrinkley a$$es

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.
STOP BEING GOOD DEMOCRATS---STOP BEING GOOD REPUBLICANS--START BEING GOOD AMERICANS
Wasn't going to use my phone to take the pictures, but saw MANY people watering over the past few days. Had a RPD officer's sprinkler turn on at 5 AM this morning.

2012 Schenectady County Best Tasting Drinking Water Competition
Local Municipalities Do Battle in Taste Test Set at Downtown Farmers Market
(Schenectady, NY) - June 27, 2012 - Will the City of Schenectady retain their title or be dethroned for the best tasting drinking water in Schenectady County? Find out Thursday, June 28, 2012 as local municipalities in Schenectady County do battle to determine who has the best tasting drinking water. The winner will go on to the regional competition in Albany and if successful, the State finals held at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. Last year, the City of Schenectady won the County-level competition and advanced to the Regional competition.
“Schenectady County has some of the best tasting water in the State, as both the City of Schenectady and the Town of Rotterdam have been regional and state champions,” said Judy Dagostino, Chairwoman of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Schenectady County has an abundant supply of great tasting water right out of the tap. This taste test is a chance for each of our towns, villages and the City of Schenectady to compete for the right to say that they have the best tasting water in Schenectady County. The best part of the competition is that our local residents get to choose the winner, so I encourage everyone to come down to the Farmers Market and be the judge.”
With all the good ideas one can bandy about the powers that be will never do anything that doesn't serve their own interests FIRST
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
