Police have not released the Bangkok Bistro employee's name, but said he was in his thirties and died from an incident involving the restaurant's dumbwaiter.

NOT "bashing" the city. Since there ARE negatives in the city, they MUST be corrected so the city can SOMEDAY be good again. Sweeping all the bad under the rug, keeping it a secret, ignoring the bad, is ONLY making things worse!

SCHENECTADY — A Bangkok Bistro employee died early Saturday morning after a head injury from the restaurant's food service elevator.
Schenectady Police Sgt. Matthew Dearing said Israel Silva, 30, was loading food onto the elevator in the basement kitchen when it was activated by another employee from the floor above. Silva's head became trapped, causing a severe head and neck injury.
Police responded to the scene at about 1:19 a.m., and city firefighters tried to treat the injuries, but Silva was pronounced dead at the restaurant.
Silva was a part owner of the restaurant, located at 268 State Street.

The elevator can't be operated in the heart of the city, known far and wide, as the city of code enforcement, without proper interlocking devices to prevent accidental head removal.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. June 27 for Israel “Bobby” Silva, 30. The partner in two local Thai restaurants died early Saturday from injuries sustained when his head became stuck in the dumbwaiter of the Bangkok Bistro in Schenectady. Silva owned the Bankgok Bistros in Schenectady and Colonie with his brother-in-law, William Phan. The company operates as Sasha Lee Corp. Silva was married to Phan’s sister. Schenectady’s Bangkok Bistro was open for two years when Silva and Phan bought it from the original owner, Viroj Chompupong, in mid-2007. The men also own Bangkok Bistro at 1619 Central Ave. in Colonie, which they opened in July 2011. The fire department on Saturday responded to the 1:20 a.m. call at 268 State St. and attempted to treat Silva, said Schenectady Fire Chief Michael Della Rocca. Silva was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to Ellis Hospital . Della Rocca said he’s heard several accounts of the event, including that Silva was trying to repair the kitchen dumbwaiter when it suddenly became activated. At least one employee witnessed the accident. He said officials will take affidavits from people who were in the restaurant at the time of the accident. No charges were filed because the incident apparently occurred during the normal course of business. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 27 at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, 1803 State St., Schenectady. There will be a viewing from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 26 at Gleason Funeral Home, 730 Union St., Schenectady, according to the restaurant’s Facebook page. Both are open to the public.
