ROCHESTER (AP) — More than $100,000 has been raised online for an elderly upstate New York bus monitor who was taunted and verbally abused by students.
The incident was captured in a 10 minute video posted to YouTube showing Karen Klein trying her best to ignore the stream of profanity, insults and outright threats directed at her.
By early Wednesday the video had gone viral.
As of 8:43 a.m., a website, http://www.indiegogo.com/loveforkarenhklein , had raised $127,286 and the amount was rising by the minute. The page was established Wednesday with an initial goal of raising $5,000 to send Klein on a top-notch vacation.
Klein told the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (http://on.rocne.ws/MjawMO ) that she "was just trying to ignore them and hope they would go away."
The Greece bus monitor didn't report the incident, but school officials notified police when they learned of the incident. An investigation has been launched.
The way this generation is coming up......scary....and where was the bus driver in all this.....and why didn't this woman get up and speak up...

At some point we have all experienced something humiliating.....but never got a vacation from it.....
anyway...wonder where she is going and for how long......
So, why exactly are they collecting the money? Is it bad enough that she had to get treatment that she couldn't pay for? People getting into this position should know that kids nowadays are nothing like they used to be, and that things like this happen. Not saying it's right, but it occurs, sort of like crime in Schenectady. The fact of the matter is that you know you'll deal with things like this, maybe not to this level.
So, they're raising money... for a VACATION? If this is how the situation is consistently on the bus, are they going to do this when she comes back from vacation again, so that she can have another one when it starts again? Or will you have the school try to straighten out the children / their parents? This is just trying to throw a bunch of "shut up money" at a problem. Maybe that's what this icon is for...
She has a couple choices as far as I see it. She could shut up and take it (not recommended), she could complain to the school, or she could quit and go on and do something else. You really want to see a difference? Instead of using this money to send her on vacation, use it for a lawyer and get the school district to take care of the issues.

The school system bullies the children to comply and conform to the state mandated rules and regulations, forcing them to sit still in uncomfortable desks, in classes that do not interest them, only allowing them to speak when granted permission, allowing them to go to the bathroom when granted permission. In some schools they are walked through metal detectors and frisked and in some cases the schools are patrolled by armed police officers. And we wonder where the behavior of bullying is learned.

So, are you proposing / sanctioning lazy-boy recliners for all students, free roam of the halls (during class) and outbursts whenever they want to? In many cases, courses are ELECTIVES - meaning they choose to take the classes. The basic principles of 'Reading 'writin and 'rithmatic" are still required learning - it's the only way to prepare kids for the future in the real world.
Students are there to LEARN prescribed teaching material, using conventional methods. Bullied? No. Taught, yes.

The VERY first time a kid insulted her or said something disrespectful she should have told the bus driver to stop the bus, get the kid or kids names and report them to the principal of the school.
She probably thought it would be an ok job to make a little extra money but she was in over her head. There is no way she should have sat quietly. As a bus monitor she is supposed to "monitor" so I wonder what was happening in addition to what happened to her? Were there kids being taunted and or hit?
I don't understand how money for a vacation is going to help in any way. What has to be done is they have to make the kids responsible for their actions. They get a warning for first offense. suspended for second and three strikes and your out, let the "parent" get their as*es to school.
