Rising at a slower pace? That's like driving up the Northway in a Honda civic with the pedal to the metal cruising at 110 mph and after 10 miles only getting up to 112 mph and telling the officer you weren't excessively speeding for the last 10 miles. Spending is DOWN it has only increased more slowly at it's RECORD HIGH LEVELS. |

No Cicero it's not... your analogy is, as always totally unrelated to the issue at hand. The increase in spending under Obama has been less than any other president back to the 1950's. It's less than Reagan, less than Clinton, less by far than G Worst Bush... It's the least growth of spending in 60 years. So take your little Honda Civic up the Northway at 110mph... and explain to the cop how you weren't speeding... you were just demonstrating growth in spending! |

Spending isn't "down". It is INCREASING less quickly in relation to other president's spending increases. The Obama federal budget is higher than all those other presidents. Pretty simple to understand. |

Oh we've got an approved budget now? Boxy and his selected websites can come up with ANY statistics to reflect any direction they want. Statistics are like assholes, everyone has one. |

You sound like the people at the public teet saying funding has been cut when it's really the rate of increase that has been cut.
When you're bleeding out with no sign of help on the way, does it really matter if the increase of the rate of blood flowing out is slowing? |

Spending down = higher taxes and no jobs!!! WTF? The feds cut spending by cutting $$$$ to the states, which still equates to higher taxes on the taxpayer's back!!! And unemployment is sky high causing unemployment rates so soar. Business will pass that cost on to the consumer = higher prices. Not to mention less money going into the tax base and into the economy!!! (just a couple examples) Are people really believing this bullcrap?? OMG!! |

pretty ironic that the two dem presidents seem to keep the spending lower. I guess do what I say no what I do should be the new republican motto. FYI both mainstream candidates are horrible, Obama is the lesser of two evils imho. |

Quoted Text
The shocking, contrarian piece was widely circulated in liberal circles and was even cited on Wednesday by White House spokesman Jay Carney.
But there were a few problems with Nutting’s numbers. Nutting’s methodology assumes spending in the first year of a presidential term should be credited to the previous president. OK, fine. But he attributed a $410 billion spending bill in March of 2009 to George W. Bush even though it was signed by Barack Obama. Nutting also didn’t use inflation adjusted numbers.
But I did both of those and got wildly different results from Nutting, as seen in the chart at the top of this post. (Note: I looked at absolute spending as opposed to the rate of increase.)
My numbers show that spending under the ’10-’13 Obama budgets far outstrips spending by a generation of presidential predecessors. This should not be surprising since spending as a share of GDP under Obama is the highest in U.S. history outside of World War II.
We can disagree about whether all of Obama’s massive spending is a good idea or not. But we can’t factually argue about whether it happened or not. It did.
The Obama spending binge really did happen.
