We have County Waste and there is no sorting of recyclables with them either all one container automated pickup. For the middle size container we pay $33 per month.

I wonder what it costs the city of Schenectady per home for pickup, gas, paying employees and benefits, maintenance of trucks etc.

There is a new player in this area -- Advantage Disposal -- give them a call and get their pricing.   It's about $5 to $7 per month lower than County.   Then if you already have County and try to cancel, they will match Advantage's price.   In my situation, I went with the new guy....I had a hard time with the fact that County could charge me more the additional $$$ for the last 10 years and would only lower it when I wanted to cancel.

We did the same thing, as far as Advantage's ad.  We called to sign up with Advantage upon seeing their ad, and when we called County to cancel, the agreed to allow us to continue the same service (2 medium cans, I guess they are, 1 recycle, 1 garbage) at the price Advantage was advertising.  We stayed with County.  Clubhouse, I understand your reasoning, but that's also called marketing and working along with people, doing business.  Both businesses, I'm sure, have a wide profit margin, so if one wants to bring it down to match the other, so be it.

Price depends on the size container you have/need!

We know some seniors and/or singles that share one container and split the cost.
