Republicans are always boasting that they are the most patriotic "real Americans" -- yet apparently the Republicans who run the City of Saratoga Springs are too cheap to fund the Annual Memorial Day Parade.  I guess they don't believe that honoring America's war dead is worth spending some money on.  They prove once again that Republican talk is cheap.  They should be ashamed of themselves.

We should send a patriotic message of support to America's veterans and war dead by boycotting Saratoga Springs.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - A lack of funding and dwindling participation is being blamed for the cancellation of a Memorial Day held in an upstate New York city for more than 25 years.

Organizers of the annual parade in downtown Saratoga Springs tell the Daily Gazette of Schenectady that waning recognition of the holiday as a day to remember the nation's war dead also played a role in their decision to cancel the event.

The parade, usually held on the Wednesday evening before Memorial Day, was sponsored by the local posts of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Italian American War Veterans. The groups split the $1,500 cost of staging the event.

Organizers say the veterans groups still plan to hold their annual memorial ceremony in Saratoga's Congress Park on May 30.

DVOR yes its a shame they are not having it. looks like the Legion and VFW's are going broke just like many are.

Actually Sch'dy should be cutting events and let a "non profit" like Proctors have fundraisers to help cover the cost

What a HYPOCRITE of the BIGGEST kind

DV, an ALLEGED Roman Catholic, actually was the LONE CHEERLEADER for the closing of the FINAL, THE LAST Roman Catholic elementary school in the city.  And this closing leaves parents IN the city with virtually NO CHOICE in education for their children.

What did DV say about it?   He FULLY supports the Pastor (that pastor who CRAFTILY timed the announcement to coincide with the first day of a lavish two week vacation).

When reference was made to the FACT that the school had many many many many many many many fundraisers and this pastor has halted all fundraisers, DV quickly responded saying it's difficult to get people to volunteer these days (to work on the fundraisers) and that it costs money.

DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!    DV, if you had a brain that could comprehend things, the reason for eliminating the parade is because lack of volunteers and participates as well as cost !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HYPOCRITE   HYPOCRITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DV CRITICIZES the cancellation of the parade in the thriving republican city that is due to cost and lack of volunteers
but
DV JUSTIFIES the cancellation of fundraisers to keep St John's school open, allegedly due to cost and lack of volunteers

DV are you shaking those pom poms---or maybe shaking your ding-a-ling---for the lack of any parade in the city of Schenectady by YOUR DEMS!!!!!!!!!!    NO VOLUNTEERS, NO MONEY.   TAXPAYERS ARE LOSING THEIR HOMES!!!!!!!!

ROFLMAO!

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

The failure of this parade was due to lack of funding by veterans groups, not because of any Republican.

Kinda like saying Schenectady is in a Renaissance when foreclosed homes go to the lowest bidder.

Instead of a boycott of a City with no control over this situation, maybe DV should begin to volunteer to fundraise at one of the Veterans groups so that next year, this doesn't happen.

But like a true DEM, he'd rather have State/City taxpayers throw money at the problem rather than do real work.

I have a question here...............how much  money does a parade cost any way? Who gets the money and why? Why isn't it allvolunteer?

And lets face it folks.......most people look at Memorial weekend as the kick off of summer....yes? It's a day off from work day. It's a camping weekend. It's a capitalist's dream for sales and profits. It's back yard picnics. It's planting flowers/gardens!!! It's hamburgers and hot dogs! It's time to get the boat in the water!

So now there is some jerk who is trying to turn a 'non-issue parade' into a political issue? DIMWIT!

You and your fellow nayboobs are quick to blame Democrats for any problems in the communities in which they govern ---- yet you refuse to hold the Republicans accountable in communities that they govern ?   How hypocritical -----

also .. you - like your fellow nayboobs are blatant, almost pathological liars -- I never said I'd rather have tax dollars spent on this matter  (although honoring our veterans is a lot better use of tax dollars than spending  $85,000 to send Senator Hugh Farley and his family on vacations to Hawaii and Disney World).

Actually, I agree -- people should volunteer to march in the parade --   but I have to laugh at your pathetic namecalling  -----   you and your fellow nayboobs have taken turning "non-issues" into political issues to the lowest level possible.

Guess what, you just stated that the taxpayers are supposed to fund this parade.

Let me just fill you in on something..... City/County/State government is not meant to fund everything. If you would like that, please feel free to enter a Socialist or Communist Country. When City government throws taxpayer money around without restraint, you can end up with a $5 million dollar deficit.

Welcome to Schenectady!
