Mohonasen budget approved by voters
May 15, 2012
On Tuesday, May 15, Mohonasen residents voted to approve the district's 2012-2013 proposed budget with 1082 voting in favor and 589 voting against it. The $44.1 million budget carries a 2.75 percent spending increase over the current year and a 2.278 percent increase in the tax levy.
The tax levy increase is at the allowable limit set by New York’s new tax levy cap law.
“First of all, I want to thank everyone who came out and voted on this rainy day. In this challenging environment, every vote truly mattered,” Superintendent Dr. Kathleen Spring said.
"This budget represents a real effort to preserve our core, so we have something to build from and can continue to provide a sound education to our students. As I’ve said before, we are very fortunate to live in a community where people recognize the value of their schools.”
Voters also approved a $290,000 proposition to purchase two full size 66-passenger buses and one 24-passenger wheelchair bus, with 1056 voting in favor and 609 voting against it.
Three candidates were also elected to the Mohonasen Board of Education. Voters elected Stacy MacTurk (1226 votes), Gary Spadaro (1346 votes) and Tom Andriola (1240 votes).
