Your wireless router ID, latitude and longitude, type of encryption and possibly a lot more is already stored by Google.
When Google sent out the vehicles to track everyone's wireless networks, disguised as Google Earth data collection, the cars were equipped with technology developed by the inventor of netstumbler and stumblevert. These are infamous wireless network tools designed to help break into your network.
If the vehicles stayed at each location long enough, they could have broken into your network and copied every hard drive on your network. Passwords, credit cards, etc.
There is no proof that they did. They were recording the location, encryption type and your router ID(network name)
The man who designed the software for them designed network cracking software that is used every day to break into wireless networks.
As the vehicles scanned your network, they could easily captured enough packets to break your WEP security.
We have only their word that they didn't.
Many wireless networks can be broken into very easily with several different programs that collect packets.
Scanning your street with netstumbler and collecting the data, is like casing the joint for future break ins.
The actual WEP keys could easily have been collected as well as the basic network data.
They went out and collected all this data under the disguise of photographing every home and business on every street in the country for use on Google street view.
You really need to take the tin foil hat off more often.Oh, and make sure you've got a good password on your router.
If you've got nothing to be ashamed of, arrested for or you don't want your momma seeing, why would you be worried?
If you're that paranoid, I'd suggest turning off your computer and go back to writing letters with pen and paper.
^5.......................you beat me to it..........................the govt. can look at my hd anytime they want, I have nothing to hide....................unless they consider my latest search for diy therm o-neuclear device serious ......................I file this as another who cares
"Marius Milner, the engineer who developed NetStumbler, a tool used to map WiFi networks using a WiFi card and GPS (also known as "wardriving"),... is also the engineer Google has claimed was solely responsible for the code that collected personal data from WiFi networks, including e-mail addresses and passwords, with the company's Street View cars between May 2007 and May 2010."
All that was missing for total collection of every single file on evry hard drive on every network was the actual burglary software.
Aircrack or any of the similar programs.
Anyone in the Google streetview cars could easily had a laptop and checked out the network contents of celebrities, politicians, businesses, etc.
All the information about your network, your physical location and photographs of your house was collected.
If your house appears on google streetview, then your network was scanned for open status and type of encryption used. Data that "could" be used to enter and search your hard drives.
They admit to taking usernames and passwords, along with emails.

Google is not the government.
Your passwords on your network merely slow them down.
But if you don't care who can access your credit card data, SS# or your complete identity, then by all means, just continue to ignore that your network can be opened easily.
It's not paranoia when businesses(or criminals) are collecting your passwords and emails without your knowledge while you sleep.
You are one seriously paranoid mo'f***er................................the little time I have left on this earth is not going to be spent worrying about sh*t like this............I hope you find what you're looking for......................peace out...
If anyone wants me to automatically forward copies of my email - I'll be happy to setup the forwarder immediately.
How in the world did you ever get over your paranoia and register an email address? @Yahoo, @gmail, @hotmail, @nycap.rr.com @netzero .. etc .... you think they REALLY care about what one individual is receiving via email?
I suppose you don't realize that Time Warner, Dish and DirecTV can also track what you watch, what times your TV is on - therefore they can tell when you're likely "not home" and what time you go to bed - shouldn't you be worried about that? Makes your house easier to rob when you're not there or sleeping - oh and I hope you don't have Time Warner Home Security at your home or office - that just makes it all the easier.
ADT and every other alarm company monitors your system regularly, if you have one. They know when the system is "armed/away" and "home" - aren't you worried about that?
GPS in your car from Progressive insurance - gets you a better rate, but they track your every move ...
Easypass on the Thruway ... cameras on the roadway ... traffic-cams .. oh man, the list goes on.
Your pharmacist must LOVE you when you come in to renew your anti-anxiety medications

The point here is that NO ONE has the constitutional right to 'spy' or gather 'information'!! It doesn't matter whether someone is 'ashamed' or not(that's how they sell it)..............they just don't have the right...........PERIOD!!
And everyone should be appalled.
When the INSANE are running the ASYLUM In individuals, insanity is rare; but in groups, parties, nations and epochs, it is the rule. -- Friedrich Nietzsche
“How fortunate for those in power that people never think.” Adolph Hitler

You know full well there is a huge difference between being a voluntary subscriber and having someone enter into your personal and financial control system without permission.
Protecting your finances and personal data is not a joke as you make it out to be.
WEP is so insecure it barely counts as encryption.
WPA is better but still theoretically hackable as they same encryption key is used throughout the duration of the connection, so a 3rd party could eavesdrop and in theory crack it when the collect enough data.
WPA2-PSK is better yet as once the initial pass key is set, the encryption key is regularly changed making eavesdropping less useful.
