A slew of police officers and several dozen onlookers are at the scene of an adult male bear in a tree off of Front Street in the Stockade.

Schenectady Gazette ‏ @dgazette

Reporter @poozer87 (David Lombardo) is there and says the bear is about 30 feet up in the tree, in the backyard of someone's home. Rumors it's a black bear.

Naturally, @poozer87's taking video. A wild life expert at the scene told police not to shoot the bear. "We'll try not to," said an officer.

Schenectady PD are awaiting the arrival of a NYS DEC rep to come and tranquilize the bear so they don't have to use "deadly force."

No idea how the bear got up there, but @poozer87 says it's about 250 pounds and "just hangin' out."

A Stockade resident spotted it about 30 min. ago climbing a tree to get over a fence to get to this specific tree. #picky

Police had reports of a bear spotting earlier in the day and say they've never dealt with anything like this before.

Hey, better call all those "evidence techs" who live far far far OUTSIDE the city, to get them into their expensive taxpayer paid cars because they must hurry, hurry, rush RUSH down the northway, to the city.   They are "first responders" and there services are needed immediately, we must NEVER require them to live IN the city and pay the taxes, just provide them cars and gas at taxpayer expense and then the musn't pay taxes on it either.   So very important to put the city further down in the sewer financially!!!

Been watching the coverage on channel 6, police were told to shoot to kill if bear climbs down tree, encon guy shows up with tranqulizer gun, half hour later we hear he dosen''t have a tranquillzer with him so waiting for another encon guy with tranquillizer

so how many encon personnel are needed to remember to bring the tranquiliser with the gun? lol.

Bear is really cute, he was looking around like what the hell are they looking at

Long fall from the tree, don't know what is used to lessen the "blow"

Hope they don't have to kill him

Probably the same bear from Albany lol

Police were called to the 200 block of Mount Hope Drive, after a resident called stating a black bear was seen eating out of a bird feeder. Police arrived and observed a 175 pound black bear wandering through the yards. Police followed the bear and set up a perimeter in the rear of 156 Mount Hope Drive after the bear had climbed a tree.

The New York State Environmental Conservation Police responded and was able to get the bear out of the tree safely using a specialized tranquilizer. The bear was taken to the Environmental Conservation Building in Schenectady where it was evaluated by their medical staff. The bear is currently healthy and is expected to be released into the wild sometime later this afternoon.

Wait the EC is in Schenenctady and they don't have traquilizers, figures.

An ENCON officer has successfully shot the 200lb. black bear with a tranquilizer. The bear is still up perched on a branch about 20 to 25 feet up in the tree.
ENCON has set up a net at the base of the tree to catch the bear when he falls.
They have also brought in a cage to transport the bear to safety. Where the bear will be released is unknown.

Did they shoot the bear with a tranquilizer dart, or did the bear step on a heroin needle?  The bear might be on the nod, it is the Stockade.
