Schenectady votes to pay tax bill sold to firm to clear way for $13.5M road plan

SCHENECTADY — The city continues to learn about delinquent tax bills it should never have sold to an out-of-state collection agency, this time a $5,000 charge on Amtrak property that must be paid if the $13.5 million Erie Boulevard reconstruction project is to begin.

Meanwhile, at least nine nonprofits are waiting for the city to pay the collection agency, American Tax Funding of Florida, so that they can avoid foreclosure on their properties.

On Monday night, the City Council approved the Amtrak lien payment.
