ROTTERDAM — A municipal employee alleges the head of the Town Public Works Department created a hostile work environment by making repeated unwanted sexual advances toward her and then retaliated when she rebuffed him.
The town worker, Vicki Carrieri, contends that her one- time supervisor Michael Griesemer demanded sexual favors from her in town offices and other locations as well as vehicles owned and leased by the town, according to individuals familiar with the situation and the notice of claim, which was filed in late February.
The alleged inappropriate sexual and verbal harassment occurred from August of 2005 until the present day, according to the claim, which is a precursor to a lawsuit.
In the document, Carrieri, 48, claims Griesemer groped her, treated her more harshly that colleagues and made her perform duties outside of her job description.
As a result, she claims to have suffered severe emotional distress and lost pay she would have otherwise earned. Carrieri is seeking unspecified monetary damages.
At one point during her alleged ordeal Griesemer told Carrieri that "if she had made the right decision years ago, he would have protected her and she would have been going through this," the claim contends.
Griesemer and Carrieri are still employed by Rotterdam in different departments.
She now works for the Rotterdam Senior Citizens' Center even though the town's web site lists her as a DPW clerical staffer. Carrieri's attorney, Joseph Dougherty did not return calls Friday to his Albany office seeking comment. Reached at her home Friday, Carrieri also declined comment.
Attorney Chris Massaroni, who is representing Griesemer said: "On behalf of Michael, he vehemently denies any acts of wrongdoing." He declined further comment.
Rotterdam Supervisor Harry Buffardi confirmed last week that his administration is "actively investigating" accusations of sexual harassment by a female employee but declined to offer any more details because of the ongoing probe.
He also would not confirm that Carrieri is the complainant in the claim though other people familiar with the situation but not authorized to speak on the issue because it is a personnel matter say Buffardi launched the probe not long after he took office in January after the woman complained to him about the alleged sexual harassment..................>>>>...................>>>>.................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....69.php#ixzz1s16lnKA3

Ms. Carrieri is a lovely and nice young lady. I have no idea how this will all turn out.
