A White House spokesman said President Barack Obama believes women should be admitted as members to the all-male Augusta National, home of the Masters golf tournament.
White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters Thursday that Obama's "personal opinion is that women should be admitted" to the golf club. Carney said it was "up to the club to decide" but Obama told him he personally thinks women should be welcome.
"We're kind of long past the time when women should be excluded from anything," Carney said.
One of the club's longtime sponsors, IBM, has a new female CEO, Virginia Rometty. The last four CEOs at IBM, all male, have been invited to be members.
The chairman of Augusta National this week has said the club will decide for itself whom to allow in its ranks.

Book: Women in Obama White House felt excluded and ignored
In an excerpt obtained by The Post, a female senior aide to President Obama called the White House a hostile environment for women.
“This place would be in court for a hostile workplace,” former White House communications director Anita Dunn is quoted as saying. “Because it actually fit all of the classic legal requirements for a genuinely hostile workplace to women.”
Dunn declined to discuss the specifics of the book. But in an interview Friday she said she told Suskind “point blank” that the White House “was not a hostile environment.”

Bipartisan agreement can be rare in Washington, but politicians from both parties are coming out in favor of allowing women to join the all-male August National Golf Club, home of the annual Masters Tournament.
"Don't you think it's time Augusta National joined the 21st century - or the 20th - and allowed women members?" Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) tweeted Friday.
Republicans candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich also said they believe that women should be allowed to join. The GOP hopefuls' comments came after the Obama administration addressed the issue Thursday.
"He believes, his personal opinion is, that women should be admitted," White House Press Secretary Jay Carney told reporters. "We are kind of long past the time when women should be excluded from anything."

I think that boys/girls clubs should be coed. I think that all dressing rooms should be coed. School gym classes/dressing rooms should be coed. Women should be able to play in the NFL and NBL. Women should be allowed to take oaths and be able to join the ELKS.
..............Why not?????

Should men be allowed membership to the women-only Belizean Grove?
This is just another example of the Obama administration making up a controversy in order to pander to women.

Court Nominee Sotomayor Quits Women-Only Group
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor on Friday resigned her membership in an all-women organization, hoping to head off criticism that she belonged to a discriminatory organization before her confirmation hearings begin next month.
The group, the Belizean Grove, calls itself "a constellation of influential women" formed in response to the all-male Bohemian Club, whose annual revels at its expansive Northern California estate are attended by powerful and influential men.
The Belizean Grove apparently doesn't own its own property, but schedules periodic events in the U.S., Belize and other locations in Central America, according to its Web site.
"I believe the Belizean Grove does not practice invidious discrimination and my membership did not violate the Judicial Code of Ethics, but I do not want questions about this to distract anyone from my qualifications and record," Judge Sotomayor wrote in a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat, and ranking Republican, Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama.
"The Belizean Grove is proud and privileged to have had Sonia Sotomayor as a member," Susan S. Stautberg, the group's founder, said in a statement. "We're all sorry that she is not able to continue."
