Burned buildings
torn down quickly

SCHENECTADY — The buildings left uninhabitable by a Saturday fire at 605 Union St. were demolished Sunday.
Extensive damage was found in the post-fire inspection and Mayor Gary McCarthy said offi cials decided to remove the risk of collapse by having the buildings torn down.
Two large backhoes began the job Sunday morning, pulling the two buildings down with the fi re department standing by. By tonight the rubble will be moved and the site backfi lled.
“I’m not going to just let these buildings sit here and add to the blight,” McCarthy said.
“That’s government working the way it’s supposed to,” said Carl Lamalfa, whose wife, Debbie, owns Manhattan Exchange, a neighboring restaurant. “The mayor saw a problem and he fi xed it.”
The cause of the fire in the unoccupied building is unknown.

Now we know one main reason why the building came down in record time!
Who owns Manhatten Exchange?

It is interesting -- the same folks who complain if the city doesn't act fast enough to deal with vacant buildings are now criticizing the city for moving quickly.  Could it be that these people will never actually be satisfied and/or derive some perverse pleasure from chronic whining and complaining?

The complaint isn't when, its WHO gets their buildings torn down... It appears if you are connected, you get it done quickly, if you are in a run down neighborhood, you can go F yourself.
How long did it take the burned out 2 family on Crane and 10th Ave to get torn down?
How about the two family at the corner of Cutler and Oak st, which had a fire AT LEAST FIVE YEARS AGO and is still standing?
Its because the city is only concerned with the Proctors and Union St corridor and will let Mt Pleasant, state st, and the hill stay a war zone.

Unless you are connected or are in a business zone, you are not important and the neighborhood can be left to decay...

How stupid are you?????     There is a difference between one day and 8 years!!!!!!!!

And I will add, and I trust DV can answer this question, take a look at the two burned out houses on Eastern Avenue roughly across from the old fire station.   One had a fire 10 years ago, the other one probably 3 or 4 years ago.   So tell us DV, tell us WHY YOUR DEMS are taking the taxpayers money and using it on downtown instead of using it to take these two houses down, hu?????

The two houses in question are not next door to each other.   There is a house in between them.

Now, DV, do YOU think it is fair and just for the homeonwer in that house in between to have their hard earned tax dollars go to downtown when they, as homeonwers, have to live between two burned out buildings?

How is that for the owners property values, huh DV?    Oh, that's right, you can't answer that because for one, you have no clue what it's like to be a property owner or pay taxes and sseconde, if you answered truthfully that it's not fair to that homeowner, then that would be an admission that yoour dems are indeed stealing from homeowners and getting nothing in return

So why is the one house, more directly across from the fire house, why is it still listed in the owners name who bought it in the 1990's even though it hasn't been lived in for 10 years?

Burned out, and the dems have done what?    NOTHING.   But they steal from the taxpayers and spend it on downtown.

Your right.  This one on 2033 Broadway Schenectady isnt unsightly.  The blue tarp makes it ultimately more attractive. The link attached is per Google Street view which was in August 2011.  The house is in the same condition today.  FACT.  Drive by it today.  Apparently not enough people travel on Broadway?

Heck, the only thing soon left on Broadway will be DSS and the adult bookstore that's about to open.  Everyone else can't get out fast enough.  Even L&M couldn't make it in their 3 owners since they closed.

I never said that any of the vacant buildings weren't unsightly.  Read carefully and for comprehension -- I said that the same people who are complaining that the city does not move fast enough are now complaining that the city moved too quickly.  In other words, you and your nayboob friends are a bunch of hypocritical, chronic complainers who will just never allow yourself to be happy or satisfied.  It is probably an issue that you folks need to take to psychotherapy.

It would also help if you folks did some research and learned that it is a heck of a lot easier for the city to take down a structure WITH the cooperation of the owner than it is to take any action when the owner(s) are uncooperative and - in some cases - absentee landlords.

again, DV, there IS a difference between one day and ten years!

Could it have stood a FEW days while there was a thorough investigation?  Tell us, DV, what was the cause of the fire?   Huh?    And if the buidling is gone, how will anyone know?

Oh, of course, this is close to downtown, mustn't allow burned out vacant buildings be seen.

Now, dV, tell us WHY the dems are stealing from the taxpayers to spend on downtown while the taxpayers are suffering and living in the midst of long burned out buidlings?   Huh?

Looks like all the credit goes to 'the boys in blue' since it was right next to an establishment owned by one.

That is why this burned out building was taken down in 24 hours AND on a Sunday!!

Gary McCarthy will be allowed to take the credit....but one would have to believe....that he and the city had NO choice!! And that is what keeps those votes-a-comin' in!!

That's how the democons pay to play!!!!
