CONGRESSMAN TONKO TO HOST PUBLIC MEETING IN ROTTERDAM DURING NATIONAL FLOOD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK

ROTTERDAM, NY – Congressman Paul Tonko will host a public meeting on Wednesday, March 14th at 6 P.M. to discuss flood safety awareness. The week of March 12, 2012 is National Flood Safety Week.  Throughout the week, first responders, community officials and state and federal agency representatives will be meeting with communities across the country to discuss flood safety, community awareness and other related issues.

The public meeting will be held at the Jefferson Elementary School Gymnasium at 100 Princetown Road in the town of Rotterdam.

Congressman Tonko will be joined by the National Weather Service, U.S. Geological Survey, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, New York State Office of Emergency Management and a variety of local stakeholders. Local WRGB Meteorologist Neal Estano will emcee the event.

Attendees will learn information on flood response and recovery along with preventative measures that municipalities, homeowners, and individuals can take to ensure their families and property are adequately prepared to handle a flood.

Individuals will be able to talk directly with agencies and organizations one-on-one immediately following the formal presentation.

Tonko always has a way of planning ahead.  He must check the town schedule and try to find the busiest night.  Last year, he had the meeting an hour before a town board meeting.  This time around?  Not only is there a town board meeting the same night, there's also a concert for all the choirs for 6th Grade - 12th Grade for all the families in Schalmont, you know, the school district that those who live in Rotterdam Junction go to.  Idiot (just like those who elected him... again).
