Someone had mentioned the closing of the Model Train shop in downtown, It didn't close becasue of lack of buisness, it closed because the man who owned passed away suddenely, his wife was shocked, and saddened by his passing. It was occuped for sometime as she greived and cleared out the stock.

It is true that not all businesses close for lack of business. Some people just don't want to deal with the taxes, the hassel, being a target for the local and state government, and if you are downtown for instance- the vagrants, shop lifters and scum that will annoy you to no end. Some want to retire and some get ill or pass away. However if I were a train enthusiast, I am certain that I would shop on Hamburg St rather than downtown too for the most part. That is not to say I would not ever go there for train items, but I imagine I would just not be that interested in being panhandled and having to put up with the crappy parking, and lowlife thuggery around every corner.

Thank you, Bumblethru! I used to go there, I have made several friends there. I made there customers models, painted them, etc. When the customers didnt have the time or the ability to do that sort of thing themselves. Bob was always cordial, and his wife was always helpful.
Now, I am "Just Reading..." and doing bigger and better things, in the town of Rotterdam.

That is true. Robert Golden who also worked for years, as an industrial electrician at Adirondack Beverages, was the owner of the model train shop.
