This just show how weak schenectady's court system is. No wonder why the cops don't give a sh!t. Why should they? They put their lives at risk to protect the citizens....they catch criminals......and they are let go!!!

And then on the flip side.....the cops go over board when a mentally/physically disturbed guy who is carrying a 'steak knife' in the Gazetto building!

Lack of leadership and a city running by the seat of it's pants is obvious!

This Mr. Bandhoo guy should have been held and charged with attempted murder THE FIRST TIME!!! Then this woman would still be alive! It also goes to prove that ORDERS OF PROTECTION DON'T WORK!! Looks like Schenectady needs tougher judges to say the least!

Yup.......perfect law suit!

What should the city do, charge every domestic violence suspect with attempted murder and hold them in jail?  Taxpayers better be prepared to fund a much larger jail.  This is a crime of passion and tragic, not much law enforcement could do.  Be careful about blaming this on city leadership, since government "solutions" always means more funding and higher taxes, and rarely result in a solution.

This wasn't a 'spur of the moment' crime.

There was an obvious history. The judges knew it...the courts knew it......the cops knew it......

They have already acknowledged that the domestic violence rate is HIGH in the city. It doesn't appear that the court system is being 'pro-active'.

They want to propose legislation to make harsher laws on animal abusers........perhaps they should revisit the laws for domestic violence..........yes?

...more cops, more jails, larger more expensive DA office, clogged court system.  All cost money.  Pro active means more money.   If 1000 cases of domestic violence are brought before a judge, and treated the same under the law and held and released, and one results in a tragic death - do you now treat the other 999 that didn't end in a murder as potential murderers?

They aren't "my statistics" --- they were not "hand selected"

they are THE national statistics from that year --   and the point is that some states with low taxes  (like Texas) had high rates of "domestic murder" ..  if you look at ALL of the states -- there is NO CORRELATION between tax rates and domestic violence.

No, DV, they are statistics from one, JUST ONE of thousands of organizations addressing domestic violence, EACH AND EVERYONE will have their OWN agenda as to the reasons and the solutions.   You have opted to CHOOSE some VERY VERY OLD information by RANDOMLY CHOOOSING ONE of thousands

First ---  everyone .. including MikeChristine uses the internet to obtain information  ..  otherwise he/she is suggesting that he/she is omniscient.

Yes, people use the internet to get info.   You have merely chosen some RANDOM site that gives numbers that would make it seem  that financial stresses of taxes do NOT have anythin to do with domestic violence.

I can easily provide A website for some random group out of those thousands, that says that FINANCIAL STRESS indeeed DOES contribute to domestic violence.   Since Schenecady taxes are about the highest in the whole dang USA, then many people-- many long long time homeowners ARE FINANCIALLY STRESSED because they are paying such high taxes  and the undisputable FACT that the values of their homes here in the city is plummeting faster than other areas, that people who need to sell their homes (regardless of reason--job transfer, downsizing, finances, empty nesters, medicaid ordering the house sold, etc) are unable to sell because no one wants to buy in the city!!!   Even non homeowners, the renters are financially stressed because their rent is being increased because the landlord is experiencing tax increase.

The point I'm trying to make is there ARE websites there, of organizations no one has ever heard of, where you can find things to spin your personal desire.

So here is one that DOES provide a correlation to financial stress and domestic violence....(and remember DV, increased taxes, paying almost the highest taxes in the whole USA IS FINANCIAL STRESS--adult men who live with mamas don't have a clue what it's like to be financially stressed)

http://www.doughroller.net/per.....d-domestic-violence/

I am NOT trying to say this is official word or not, I'm just saying I COULD provide a LONG list of website links that WILL say that financial stress is related to an increase in domestic violence.

And of course, everyone in this world---except you and your Schdy dems--know that high taxes IS 100% a MAJOR BIG TIME contributor to financial stress!!!!!!!!!

Schenectady and EVERY community in this country - indeed in the world -- needs to take steps to end domestic violence.  Hopefully, this tragedy can lead to further community discussion of the problem and concrete action to deal with the problem of domestic violence.

It looks like your democrap prosecutor and his democrap-union cops don't listen too well. Saturday's Gazetto has TWO examples of the prosecutor not being willing or able to combat or even take seriously, domestic violence. As with ALL democraps- you are all talk and no action.

"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

How many of those thousand arrests do you think involved a "knife to the throat" with the treat of death?

My guess would be a very low percentage reach that level of severity.

How many are verbal death threats like a husband or boyfriend saying 'I'll kill you'?  All physical assaults a potentialy deadly.  If you are a judge, do you let that person out or put them in jail?  Domestic violence isn't easily policed.

BTW, the knife to the throat was an accusation.  Obviously, with the luxury of hind site, we know the accusation was true.  Short if putting cameras in our homes, domestic violence is tough to police.

Well, you good ol' boys   ....apparently, there is more truth when a victim  is threatened than you
realize .....it's bigger than you think everywhere....and statistics don't matter with this problem.

when you want to get rid of someone or are threatened they may leave.....it's not about mediation
it's about taking a life....and may effect children too, if there are any....

Read about domestic violence....don't be so passive....it is serious....and statistics are not meaningful
nor is        this about money for the taxpayers...

This is about a society that has turned to violence in a most heinous way...against women and children.
no one deserves this...no one.

and to say to put all domestic abusers in jail....as murderers.....no...that's not the answer....orders of
protection are not the answer...because  most of the time that doesn't work...

LET'S HAVE SOME EMPATHY FOR THE VICTIMS.....AND IT IS UP TO THE LAW TO FOLLOW THRU ON
ALL THREATS.....ESPECIALLY IF THE LAW HAS BEEN TO A CALL MORE THAN ONCE....

to add.....most of the time the perps do not go to jail...because the victim drops the charges and they
are back together....it escalates ....unfortunately, no one can predict the outcome. ..but more attention
has to be paid to human abusers....animal abuse is more effective with the law than human abuse...

Too many women and children have been victims for too long.....and until recently,  domestic abuse was never addressed as a crime....The law looked the other way, as if the victim was the cause.
Now we have laws....and they have to be enforced...........thank goodness for those courts who take
it very seriously and get the perp off the streets.

law doesn't develope character......

character developes law.......

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

To say that none of the city's non-profits has done anything about Domestic Violence shows an utter lack of ignorance about the subject.    Schenectady Inner City Ministries which is funded by over 2 dozen churches/congregations and synagogues/temples worked to develop shelters in the city for both abused/exploited women and abused/exploited youth.  Churches have helped fund the YWCA's programs including its shelter for women.

Having said that -- still more needs to be done.

Personally, I think it is scandalous that some folks would rather sit, idly on the sidelines pointing blame at OTHERS for not doing something ---- what have these folks done to help solve the problem (not counting flapping their gums and casting blame) ????????????????????????????????????/////
