It is quite renaissancy. Of course the Obama recovery is enough to make anyone take a jump.

The real tragedy is what City "leaders" have purposely done to the Vale neighborhood through their policies. Move Bethesda House in-tell neighbors to go to hell. Dump every nonprofit and drug and alcohol program over there. Of course the people keep re-electing the same brain dead candidates. They must like being baby Hamilton Hill. Ditto Mt Pleasant.

The news is reporting that there was a history of domestic troubles with this couple.  Sadly, domestic violenece and domestic violence which ends up in a murder-suicide is something that has happened in almost every community in this country.  Even quiet rural villages and affluent suburban towns have been struck by this tragedy.

Trying to score some cheap political points will NOT solve the underlying problem of domestic violence.  Trying to blame domestic violence on other criminal activity in a community is not going to solve the problem either.

Schenectady and EVERY community in this country - indeed in the world -- needs to take steps to end domestic violence.  Hopefully, this tragedy can lead to further community discussion of the problem and concrete action to deal with the problem of domestic violence.

Community discussions arent going to solve this.  Keep raising taxes so that moms and dads have to work more jobs to feed there kids.  Keep raising them so that parents cant parent even a little bit and then watch what happens to the domestic violence rates.  Taxes up, fees up, rents up.

We need to cut expenses.  We need to hold city employees accountable.

For some reason, you nayboobs have to drag out your whole agenda of gripes even when they have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the issue being discussed.  Then you wonder why other people don't give any credibility to anything you have to say on anything.

The issue here is domestic violence -- and how do we as a community work to reduce and eventually eliminate domestic violence.      And the first place to begin -- is having a community discussion -- because unlike the nayboobs, I believe and practice the rule that ALL sides, points of view and sources of information should be listened to and used to make good decisions for the community.

Higher taxes lead to less parenting leads to more domestic violence.

http://www.silentwitness.net/states/us_map.htm#state

State by state stats seem to suggest that even states with low tax rates have high numbers of "domestic murders" or murders related to domestic violence.    Texas has lower taxes  and has 3.5 TIMES more incidents of "domestic murder" than New York does.    (rate of incidents relative to population)

Wyoming which is the state with the lowest tax rate in the nation --- has almost TWICE as many "domestic murders"   than New York does.     (rate of incidents relative to population)

So again --- Domestic Violence IS the issue ...  NOT the taxes.   Taxes are an important issue but  separate  and distinct issue with no bearing on the rate of domestic violence.

Your statistics are from 2003 or earlier and they are for domestic murder. Wyoming had 1 domestic murder in 2003, 2 in 2002 and none reported in 2001.  In other words there is such small population that rate per population seems higher with even one murder.  Like always your statistics are always hand selected.

Leave to to someone as unintelligent as DV to TRY in deepsaration to find anything that  precludes any connection between high taxes (especially when paying almost the highest taxes in the country in order to exempt millioniares from paying taxes) and domestic violence, by hurrying up and using some search engine and then trying to provide this proof.

BUT IT'S ALMOST 10 YEARS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!     And of course just randomly choosing some organization that's involved with trying to stop the problem.

They aren't "my statistics" --- they were not "hand selected"

they are THE national statistics from that year --   and the point is that some states with low taxes  (like Texas) had high rates of "domestic murder" ..  if you look at ALL of the states -- there is NO CORRELATION between tax rates and domestic violence.

Leave it to someone as close-minded and unwilling to listen to other points of view and so filled with a psychotic hatred towards any person who questions his/her beliefs or disagrees with him/her as MikeChristine  --- to make the above statement.

First ---  everyone .. including MikeChristine uses the internet to obtain information  ..  otherwise he/she is suggesting that he/she is omniscient.

Second --- there are a number of sites that provide statistics on Domestic Violence  -- and those that have state-by-state  data show the same thing ....   there is NO CORRELATION between  tax rates -- in fact a number the southern states which have lower taxes compared to northern states had HIGHER rates of domestic murder in this report and in domestic violence in other reports.

Third ---  MikeChristine is proving what I have been saying for months ....   he/she and the "nayboobs" are NOT actually interested in an intelligent discussion of the issues  ...  they are just a bunch of sycophants repeating the same uninformed, misguided rhetoric that they hear on "talk radio" or among their clique  .. they insist on using every thread to attack me or  some other Democrat.

So -- as for this topic -- Domestic Violence .. and others -- I will continue to post my thoughts and stick to the topic ..  hopefully there are some folks in town or in other areas who frequent this website and will be willing to engage in a civil and reasonable discussion of the actual issues  (keeping pettiness and personal/partisan attacks out)   --- anyone who refuses to do that is NOT worth my energy to deal with.

Dead identified in murder-suicide
Staff reports
Updated 09:43 p.m., Friday, February 24, 2012

SCHENECTADY — Police on Friday identified the two people discovered dead after a murder-suicide in a Vale neighborhood home.

Police described Rafeena N. Rahaman, 47, as a murder victim. The dead man was Ramcumar Bandhoo, 38. The bodies were found around 1:20 p.m. Thursday inside 6 Mynderse St. shortly after police received a call for a person with a knife in the area, Lt. SCHENECTADY
Killing came days after threat Victim’s advocate surprised man was let go

BY STEVEN COOK Gazette Reporter

Ramcumar Bandhoo put a knife to the woman’s throat, threatening her. The threat to the woman, Rafeena Rahaman, was direct. “You won’t be able to call the police,” Bandhoo told her, according to papers filed in court. After keeping her from fl eeing, she eventually got away, called police and Bandhoo was arrested. Eight days later, authorities say, Bandhoo was again threatening Rahaman with a knife, only this time she wasn’t able to fl ee.
Bandhoo killed her with the knife Thursday inside the same home where he was accused of threatening her the previous week.
A full accounting of what happened the week before, and on Thursday, was unavailable Friday.
According to court records and a prosecution official’s review of their fi le, Bandhoo was arrested on accusations he put a knife to Rahaman’s throat, but was released on an appearance ticket sometime after his arrest.
After that court appearance, Bandhoo’s release remained unchanged. Rahaman requested a full stay-away order of protection, according to one of the charging documents, but was granted only a lesser “refrain from” order that allowed them to be in the same place.
What was also known Friday: Rahaman was dead, killed Thursday by the man who’d put a knife to her throat eight days earlier.
Told that information Friday, Carole Merrill-Mazurek, director of women’s services for the YWCA of Schenectady and an advocate for victims of domestic violence, was amazed he could be released, apparently without even spending a night in jail.
“I find it amazing that someone that held a knife to someone’s throat and threatened them, gets released,” Merrill-Mazurek said. “I don’t know all the particulars, but it is such a common scenario in our judicial system where perpetrators simply walk without bail or very little bail.”

Well this is a pretty big screw up by our legal system.  The city is going to get sued for sure.

With respect to what happened here though...  You cannot blame taxes or hell even poor parenting.

Rage is rage, and it crosses all gender, creed, race, financial boundaries.

There are brilliant people who normally exercise perfect self control, but can become psychotic over things such as relationship issues, or just being cut off while driving.

There is plenty wrong with the horrible progressive "leaders" - such as the incompetent McCarthy abusing his "Commissioner of Deeds" role.  Absolutely sickening.  What a pathetic man.

But to blame one person's psychotic rage on these horrible leaders is a bit of a stretch.

Well then why in a City with over 100 non-profits hasn't anyone tried to address this issue of Domestic Violence? Schenectady has a high domestic violence rate, yet the City 'leaders' can't get together with the non-profits..or maybe get with the courts to get a mandatory anger management/counseling for this issue?

I'm not asking the City to shell out more money for this because 100 NON-PROFITS GETTING FREE RENT IN THIS CITY SHOULD BE ON THE BALL!!!

It's like Schenectady is a vaccuum - no one can figure out that addressing an issue is needed until someone dies.
