The outrage expressed by Catholics and Republicans over Catholic health care programs having to provide contraception pills to women offers the perfect yin-yang conundrum. If the church succeeds in eliminating the pill requirement, the church’s faith beliefs will be upheld but potentially millions of women would go without birth control. If the church does not succeed in eliminating the pill requirement, women will have access to the pill but the church says it will be forced to act against its own religious beliefs. The church argues that they should be exempt from providing birth control based on the First Amendment right of freedom of religion. On the other hand, if the law is modified to accommodate the church’s stance, isn’t that likewise a violation of the church and state? The Obama administration has suggested that pills be provided directly from the health care insurance company, not through the church, thereby, at least technically, avoiding church sponsorship. The church has not accepted this proposal. There appears to be no way around the issue if one side wins and the other side loses. But there is one thing for sure: The Catholic Church and Republicans are not abiding by the “Golden Rule.”
If the church succeeds in eliminating the pill requirement, the church’s faith beliefs will be upheld but potentially millions of women would go without birth control.
Total and utter bullsh*t, women can either get contraception by paying for it themselves or through a government program.

Boo Hoo! I don't want MY TAX DOLLARS used to cover Contraception coverage...

She couches the whole thing as a "moderate" then at the end she blasts the Church and the Republicans as not following the golden rule. What a democrap operative (civilian) who writes a deceptive letter.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."
Why do Catholic men get to make the rules for women’s bodies?
Thank you, Maura Casey, for the wonderful Feb. 26 op-ed article, “Catholic women should speak up for birth control.” It has always amazed me that more women don’t speak up to the hierarchy of the church about birth control. Instead, they quietly use birth control and tell no one for fear of being ostracized. Most of all, fear of what the priest might think. Let me remind them that in the church, we are dealing with bachelors who have been making up their own rules. If they married and had to face the daily responsibilities of having a wife and children, things would defi - nitely be different. If the Catholic institutions want federal funds, then they should provide employees with choices to purchase insurance to cover birth control expenses. Women have the right to make their own choices, although the church disagrees. I am Irish Catholic with 16 years of parochial schooling and hold a master’s degree in nursing. I’ve had experience with young women making choices about birth control, abortion and adoption. It is responsible and healthy for women to take care of their own bodies. Making birth control an issue in the political campaign is an easy way to avoid the most important [issues] we face — an unwanted war claiming the lives of our young American soldiers; a corrupt Wall Street and an economy being persecuted by businesses that chose to go to China to make profi ts. So why not beat up on women? Catholic women as well as all women. Planned Parenthood has always been a responsible advocate to women and particularly poor and middle-income women. If you count heads of people mongering against Planned Parenthood, there are more men than women. They should be given a physical exam and get some health counseling instead of displaying their ignorance.
Re March 9 letter [“Contraception foe’s analogy not quite apt”] from Dr. Barry Lindenberg: There is a misconception that opponents of the law requiring companies to provide contraception free of charge want to deny people their rights. This is not true. A woman has the right to use any contraception method she wishes. But if an organization is fundamentally opposed to it, they should not have to provide it. Contraception, as well as conception, is the responsibility of the woman and man involved.

That's probably because , even though they say they are Christian, in reality they really could care less about religion. What else can explain the increase in population, but the large DECREASE in churches?

What Else??? How about the number of priests having sex with children??? And the failure of Church leaders to address that problem?
That might tend to diminish the number of Christians attending church.

This poll shows how poorly Americans are educated and how successful the government has been at keeping Americans ignorant about the purpose of the Constitution and the Bill Of Rights. The Constitution was created to protect the inalienable right of the minority from mob rule. Liberals actually use polls like this as evidence to justify the government oppression of a minority groups 1st amendment rights.
A 27-year-old woman was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix. She was 11 weeks pregnant with her fifth child, and she was gravely ill. According to a hospital document, she had "right heart failure," and her doctors told her that if she continued with the pregnancy, her risk of mortality was "close to 100 percent."
The patient, who was too ill to be moved to the operating room much less another hospital, agreed to an abortion. But there was a complication: She was at a Catholic hospital.
"They were in quite a dilemma," says Lisa Sowle Cahill, who teaches Catholic theology at Boston College. "There was no good way out of it. The official church position would mandate that the correct solution would be to let both the mother and the child die. I think in the practical situation that would be a very hard choice to make."
But the hospital felt it could proceed because of an exception — called Directive 47 in the U.S. Catholic Church's ethical guidelines for health care providers — that allows, in some circumstance, procedures that could kill the fetus to save the mother. Sister Margaret McBride, who was an administrator at the hospital as well as its liaison to the diocese, gave her approval.
The woman survived. When Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted heard about the abortion, he declared that McBride was automatically excommunicated — the most serious penalty the church can levy.
"She consented in the murder of an unborn child," says the Rev. John Ehrich, the medical ethics director for the Diocese of Phoenix. "There are some situations where the mother may in fact die along with her child. But — and this is the Catholic perspective — you can't do evil to bring about good. The end does not justify the means."
Meanwhile, if a Catholic Priest has sex with a child (A FELONY) his punishment (if you can call it that) is that he gets transferred to another parish.
(And they wonder why parishioners are leaving in droves.)

Catholic politicians of BOTH political parties who openly defy Church teaching on abortion and other issues should be worried. I am hearing from many Catholics who say that will NOT donate to, work for or vote for Catholic politicians who ACTIVELY PROMOTE positions which run against Catholic Church teaching. I happen to agree with them. While these politicians are certainly entitled to their own opinion, they are NOT entitled to our support and they must be willing to accept that there are consequences for continuously and openly defying the Church.

Catholic Church shows ‘robust’ growth in U.S. membership, new report says 12 Comments 26
Washington D.C., Feb 21, 2010 / 07:47 am (CNA).- The Catholic Church’s membership in the United States grew at the “robust” rate of about 1.5 percent in 2008, according to National Council of Churches’ (NCC) new 2010 Yearbook of American & Canadian Churches.
A slight loss in Catholic membership in the U.S. was reported in the 2009 Yearbook, but the NCC said the latest figure shows “robust growth.” The figures come from 2008 statistics. The growth outpaces the estimated U.S. population growth rate in 2008, listed as 0.9 percent, according to the CIA World Factbook.
There are now an estimated 68.1 million Catholics in the United States.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, whose members are known as Mormons, grew 1.7 percent to almost 5.9 million members. The Assemblies of God grew 1.3 percent to about 2.9 million.
Other denominations lost membership. The Presbyterian Church (USA) shrank 3.3 percent and now has about 2.9 million members. American Baptist Churches in the USA decreased two percent to 1.4 million, while the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America lost 1.9 percent of its membership, which now stands at 4.7 million.
The Southern Baptist Convention, the largest denomination after Catholics, lost 0.24 percent of its membership and now stands at 16.2 million. It also declined in membership in the year prior.
Membership figures reported in the 2010 Yearbook were collected by the churches in 2008 and reported to the Yearbook in 2009. Eleven of the 25 largest churches did not report updated figures.
The Yearbook shows a decline in reported membership of almost all mainline Protestant denominations.
Rev. Dr. Eileen W. Lindner, editor of the NCC Yearbook, said that some observers have seen an “increasing secularization” in American society that has a disproportionate impact on “liberal religious groups.”
However, she was cautious about attributing causes of membership decline.
"American society as a whole has not experienced the kind and rate of secularization so clearly demonstrated during the last quarter century in Western Europe,” Lindner commented. “Indeed, American church membership trends have defied gravity particularly where the Pentecostal experience is included."
She also noted that the largest plurality of immigrants to the U.S. in the last 50 years have been Christian.
The Yearbook also discusses church financial trends. The almost 45 million members of the 64 churches submitting financial income reports showed contributions of almost $36 billion, $26 million lower than the previous year’s figure.
