NO one is "requiring Jews to eat pork, Hindus to eat beef, or Catholics to use Birth Control" (although the majority of
Catholics already do).
This is a requirement for all employers requiring a common benefit already offered by many Catholic employers,
to cover birth control drugs.  NO one is forced to eat pork, beef or use birth control, no matter how much you
wish they were.

READ CAREFULLY --- I said that  I suppose you would find it ok  IF  28 state legislatures passed the requirement.

I was pointing out the fallacy in your argument  -- your argument = just because most legislatures say it is ok than it is ok. (and you have also argued just because most people say it is ok)

My philosophical counterargument has ALWAYS been -- morality is NOT determined by public opinion polls or by state legislatures/Congress .....    only God and God's Church can determine what is moral and what is not moral.

Well since GOD isn't commenting on the subject of birth control, and many Catholic universities and hospitals
already offer this coverage (with out being forced to by law), it would appear that this is a political issue, not a
moral one.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral
philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

No, it's about forcing an organization to offer a product that is not in line with their church doctrine.  It is about FREEDOM.  Halal and Kosher markets offer a prodcut and run their business based on religious doctrine, why not force them to conform to secular government standards and offer non-kosher and non-halal foods?   The line keeps on moving, as the government keeps on encroaching...and this time it's disquised as "women's health".

The totalitarians march on........

I am agreeing with you on this issue -- and adding  "women's health" is really a red-herring since abortion kills unborn female  and unborn male human babies.   In nation's like China -- most of the abortions are unborn female babies.  Abortion is in many ways the ultimate attack on women and women's liberation.

God has "commented on the subject" through the Papal encyclical HUMANAE VITAE and other Church documents.

There are many hospitals and universities/colleges which were founded by Catholics that no longer are Catholic ---  just calling an institution   Saint Whatever doesn't make it Catholic and in many dioceses have severed any ties with those  institutions which refuse to follow Church teachings.

COOL!  God talks to the Catholics... no one else!  How inspiring!

As posted earlier, the Church may lay down the laws... But most American Catholics ignore the laws... and the majority of
Catholics use birth control against Catholic rule.

Also
The Obama measure closely resembles state laws providing equity in insurance coverage for contraception in six states
and actually offers far more conscience protections than previous Congressional efforts to expand women’s access to
birth control. For instance, a 2001 bill co-sponsored by Republicans Sens. Olympia Snowe (ME), Susan Collins (ME),
Lincoln Chafee (RI), Gordon Smith (OR), John Warner (VA), Arlen Specter (PA) — S. 104 — sought to establish parity
for contraceptive prescriptions within the context of coverage already guaranteed by insurance plans, but offered
no opt-out clause for religious groups who opposed contraception.

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

The overwhelming majority, 98 percent, of sexually active Catholic women use a form of modern contraception.

Two-thirds of Catholics, 65 percent, believe that clinics and hospitals that take taxpayer money should not be allowed
to refuse to provide procedures or medications based on religious beliefs. A similar number, 63 percent, also believe
that health insurance, whether private or government-run, should cover contraception.

A strong majority (78 percent) of Catholic women prefer that their hospital offers emergency contraception for rape
victims, while more than half (55 percent) want their hospital to provide it in broader circumstances.

(This appears to be one of those issues where the 'leadership' is speaking a different language from the flock they are
supposed to be leading.)

The date is quite available and several studies come to the same results:

Source:
(CDC) Center For Disease Control's , "National Survey of Family Growth,"

Sexually active Catholic women older than 18 are
just as likely ( 98% ) to have used some form of
contraception banned by the Vatican as women in
the general population ( 99% ). Among sexually
active Hispanic Catholic women, 96% have used a
contraceptive method banned by the Vatican. (NSFG, 2008)

69% of Catholic women have used birth control pills
and 88% have used condoms. (NSFG, 2008)

Catholics ( 55% ) are as likely as the general
population ( 57% ) to believe that 14- to 16-year-olds
should be able to access contraception, even if their
parents do not approve. (GSS, 2008)

in 2009, more than six in ten ( 63% ) supported
health insurance coverage—whether it is private or

birth control pills. (BRS, 2009)

The percentage of sexually active Catholic women
aged 15-44 who have ever used modern
contraceptive methods is similar to that of women
with other religious views or no religious views as
well as the population as a whole.

If a Catholic organization (or any business for that matter) recieves NO federal funding they should not be forced to do anything against their beliefs.

What are non catholic conservatives that are supporting the church's constitutional rights going to do when Obama extends an exemption to the catholic church, then Donahue and the catholic leaders turn their back on the non Catholics?

Will the Catholic Church continue to fight this based on principle if they are exempt, or will they stand down and get in line?

Actually, Catholics believe as most Christians believe that God speaks to the hearts and souls of all men and women.  However, God speaks to and through the Church on matters of Faith and Morals in a particular and authoritative way.

Religious groups back Obama's birth control mandate!

A coalition of 23 religious groups lent its support Wednesday to the Obama administration's new birth-control mandate,
which is under fire from Republicans as an attack on religious freedom.
Their support follows new polling this week that said a majority of voters, including Catholics, support the new policy.

The groups lending their support Wednesday include several explicitly pro-choice organizations, such as Catholics for Choice
and Concerned Clergy for Choice. The coalition includes Christian, Jewish and Muslim organizations.

"We believe that women and men have the right to decide whether or not to apply the principles of their faith to family
planning decisions, and to do so they must have access to services," the groups said. "The administration was correct
in requiring institutions that do not have purely sectarian goals to offer comprehensive preventive health care."

philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Do you know how funny that sounds?  If they support the mandate, why don't they just willingly pay for the contraception?  Supporting a government mandate you can impliment willingly is so illogical.
