The APF is a joke, and I wouldn't walk in their doors again if I was paid to. They are only worried about any money that they can bring in, and nothing else.

SPCA calls for animal advocate's resignation after leaving pups with police By Lauren Stanforth Published 01:02 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012
The Schenectady County SPCA is calling for the resignation of the Animal Protective Foundation's executive director after she left two pit bull puppies in the lobby of the Schenectady Police Department Friday afternoon.
APF's Rosalie Ault said she brought the puppies to city police because her Glenville shelter had no more room, and under New York state agriculture and markets law, the city is responsible for taking stray animals. APF does have a relationship with the city, and has agreed to take in city animals if there are cages available. But in recent years it has made an issue out of it, saying the shelter no longer has the resources to take on such a task. It continues to lobby for the city or county build its own shelter.
But the SPCA said that Ault's actions are "a publicity stunt gone wrong." The city's attorney will also investigate Monday if Ault should be charged under state ag and markets law for abandoning animals....................>>>>...............>>>>...................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....88.php#ixzz1mCoFzlm2

you dont need state level legislation.....just a good responsible caring neighbor with a 0.5cent slug and a shovel the pathetic owner can borrow to bury the animal with.....and a pet cemetary..... |

On two separate occasions, I had run into stray dogs. One was during the week and I brought the dog to the SPD where the Animal Control Officer took the dog. Another time, was on a weekend (and after APF hours) and I brought them a young pitbull which they did take, not sure what they did with it, probably brought it to APF as the police or animal control has after hours access to the APF, at least they did at the time.
What needs to happen is eoither for the city to pay it's dues to the shelter or to build it's own shelter.
Not in the too far in the past, this was brought up to the Mayor. all he could say is that the city doesn't have to money for a shelter. Well, I don't think he offered any other suggestions, the idiot.
Anyway, I don't think that the APF persons actions were correct, I think it could've been handled better. But if they are full, what to do? I couldn't help but laugh that the pups pooped all other th police station, pretty funny. |

Yeah, I'll tell you exactly. Went to APF and adopted many years ago. Decided to get a cat. Then, we had a child, and the child and the cat were not a good mix for each other at that time, so we had a person who we had got to know quite well, and we knew that their home would be a wonderful place for the cat, and decided that it would be better for this indoor cat to go to a home of a responsible adult instead of going back to the shelter, not knowing how long the cat would be there, or if it would be able to find another home. Well, later on, we decided that things were settled down, and we were ready to get another pet, so we went back to the APF to decide which animal we wanted to help out. We (the entire family) picked one, and when we got to the adoption part of it, they stated that since we adopted from them before, and since we decided to give the animal away to another family instead of returning it to the APF, so they could charge another family the same fees for adoption, we were now considered Persona Non Grata at their facility and we would have to leave. Well, that being said, we decided to check other clinics, and actually ended up not getting a shelter pet, but actually ending up going to a breeder. I think that they could have figured that I found appropriate housing for the animal. It's not as though we decided to abandon the animal, or just let it out on the street as a stray, but we actually found someone else to take it. It's one thing to make sure that the animal went to an appropriate home, it's another to show that it's all about the money, which is what they did to me. Personally, at this point, if they sent me an engraved invitation and an apology, I wouldn't walk through their doors again, nor would I make a donation of one bite of kibble to their establishment. They've proven where they stand to me. |

Thank for the insight Rampage...Good info for future reference.
People get confused and think a non-profit status means it's a charity. |

And yet another PR disaster by the SPD and the SCSPCA made itself look real bad. Must have really sucked for them when they ACTUALLY READ THE LAW and found out that they couldn't deploy the Waffen SS to arrest Rosalie Ault. |
