A hospital is required to treat anyone for an emergency condition. If you're dying from a heart attack, they must treat you and stabilize you. BUT once you are no longer in a life threatening condition... they can dismiss you. A heart bypass may be what you need to prevent you from dying from heart disease, but they are not required to provide one with out insurance or enough dollars to pay for it. If you need a knee surgery, a hip replacement, if you have a stabilized brain tumor, or have cancer that needs treatment, but you are stabilized... they are not required to treat you beyond an emergency condition.

You forgot the Medicaid program which would pay for all you mentioned. There are programs in place right now to take care of those who can't afford care.

Most Americans can't afford to buy health care if they make $8818 a year. Americans with 'pre existing conditions' are often charged $1500 a month for a high deductible policy. The premiums of their health care would exceed their entire income.
