I have had a project in mind for quite some time and would like to see if I can get if off the ground. I would like to build a velodrome. For those who don’t know what I speak of, a velodrome is a circular, banked track for bicycle races. It is an Olympic sport. Most velodromes are in the Midwest, West and overseas. A velodrome should be constructed as a “convention-type” facility, with the track a pre-fab structure to be disassembled when convention space is needed. There is a great need for indoor practice facilities for bikers in the Northeast. You could rent space for them to train, as well as hold competitive events. I have thought the property behind the steel facility at the end of Erie Boulevard next to the river in Schenectady, would have great access to the Crosstown and Thruway. Also, I thought of the old Chalmers Building site in Amsterdam; it too has quick access to the Thruway. Both sites have access to brownfield money and Erie Canal money. Build this facility and they will come. Build up one of the riverbanks with retail and have an attraction no one else has in the Northeast. A sport that draws people worldwide. Why build a velodrome? Because no one else has one around here, that’s why.
Actually, didn't someone once suggest something to draw people to the county, like a NASCAR track? For some reason, it sticks in my mind that it was Pat Zollinger.
"While Foreign Terrorists were plotting to murder and maim using homemade bombs in Boston, Democrap officials in Washington DC, Albany and here were busy watching ME and other law abiding American Citizens who are gun owners and taxpayers, in an effort to blame the nation's lack of security on US so that they could have a political scapegoat."

Yep............................I always thought the best idea (although at the time it sounded like the mad ravings of a senile old man) was Frank Duci's idea of a riverboat casino.......................after everything that's gone down since, it doesn't sound so crazy today.....
It could be set up like the greyhound races....except the Schenectady Team will be chased by a City Tax Bill.

I give a rowdy "Hoorah" for Mr. Vellano.. His lovely wife Holly is indeed one of the classiest ladies alive and Tony is a wise and SUCCESSFUL businessman..... If the IDA can help I hope they will....... However I PREFER to see the project fully funded by private investors yet I would ask that it be funded by an economic development agency if that is NOT possible..

So, in other words, the money will come from the county... right after the new Little League fields are built.
Something stinks in Denmark... Oh, no, that's the new Rotterdam, NY Little League field probable location.
