We will see what comes out of this, but I will tell you, the Marines are considered the "wild bunch" of the US Military. My Son is in the USAF and my cousin is in the US army (19 years) and both will tell you if you want to stay out of trouble, stay away from the Marines. The reason the Japanese want us out of Okinawa is mainly due to Marines behavior... The vast majority of Marines are upstanding, but it just seems when there is trouble, a Marine or Marines are in the middle of it.

2 of my uncles were US Marines, I was a Marine and my son was a Marine. I have friends from my time in the Corps who are private contractors in Afghanistan for the last two years.
Much of the Marine mission in Afghanistan is to "win the hearts and minds" of the locals. Marine medical treatment of civilians is part of the regular mission in Afghanistan. When the locals see that you are treating their kids for disease or from injuries, they begin to see the Marines as a force for good in their country.
One incident like this video, can wipe out a year of progress working with local Afghans.

And you'll have plenty of pictures. You'll have plenty of experts ranging from some 2-bit desk general to doctors that study the average size of a Marine's penis.
A better thing for these Marines to have done was to drag the bodies behind thier humvees to a hillside near the village where they base out of. Impaled the bodies on 10ft. pikes, doused the bodies with a mixture of pigs blood and gasoline and set them on fire for all the Taliban to see.
I agree and so does 'most everyone' with any common sense!!! This is WAR for God's sake!! Funny how our military is conditioned to be desensitized so they can stomach the theater of war!!! WAR IS UGLY!

Semper Fi Box....as a former Marine adn Viet Vet, I honestly get it and am pissed at what these few did. You know as well as I, that's not anything taught to us, and it has nothing to do with being a Marine...these are kids acting stupid, regardless of what branch of service they are in. If they wren't in uniform in a war zone, they would act the same way in civilian life.
And 55tbird....your information is wrong...Marines are not the wild crazies your friends have told you they are. I mean just because I snuck on to the Army base outside Danang and stole the base commander's jeep and stipped it for parts we needed....I woldn't categorize that as crazy!!! Marines let off steam but no more or less than the other branches. My personal experince is that USAF have a cushy life; US Army are undertrained; US Navy...well since Marines are branch of the Navy, guess they are just as crazy as us..... Of course, all of this said is MY PERSONAL OPINION, so apologies if anyone is upset by it.

Sorry Bumble, but I say BS to your nephew on two counts.....taking a bullet, watching the guy next to you die; watching a land mine kill someone; watching a bouncing betty in Nam....none of that justifies what is purported to have happened here....we simply DO NOT LOWER OURSELVES TO THEIR LEVEL. Second, your nephew was not in Nam, so he is mistaken......I was there and I can tell you that we simply DID NOT DO THAT TYPE OF THING...NONE OF US. We knew about the treatment of our POWS by the VC and it fueled us to fight harder and pay them back for what they were doing to our guys. Treating the VC prisoners with childish acts or even retaliation was never anything we even considered! We were more focused on staying alive and doing everything we could to stay safe and hope to get home in 1 piece.

I think the Corps was the only Military group where everyone had grunt as primary MOS regardless of what they might have for other duties.
