MVP offering
incentives
for retirement

SCHENECTADY — MVP Health Care is offering 156 of its approximately 1,800 employees an early retirement package to help lower the company’s administrative costs.
According to company spokesman Gary Hughes, employees who have worked at least five years and will be at least 60 years old on Sept. 1 have been offered early retirement incentives to leave the company. Hughes said they are not trying to reach a specific number of retirees and stressed that the offer is completely voluntary.
“[The package] would include a continuation of health benefi ts in the future,” Hughes said. “And there are some other elements around salary continutation.”
He added that each package will vary depending on the individual. Employees have several weeks to accept the offer.
Hughes said MVP is offering the packages in an attempt to keep the cost of health insurance affordable. “Most of [the] cost is in the medical costs,” he said of health insurance premiums. “But a small element, 10 percent or so, of that are the administrative costs.”

I wonder if, after these people take the early retirement, if these jobs will be discounted from whatever the current Metroplex-created jobs number is.  After all, I'm sure that the Metroplex jobs number does include the jobs at MVP, which includes jobs stolen from another place in the city, along with jobs pulled from Rotterdam, but they're created in the amazing building they have down there.
