Dozens of soldiers on lockdown over missing military equipment
From Maria P White, CNN
updated 6:00 AM EST, Sun January 8, 2012

The soldiers can have day visits but must sleep at the base at night
Authorities are trying to determine how long the equipment has been missing
(CNN) -- Nearly 100 soldiers are confined to a Washington state base following a report of missing sensitive military equipment, including scopes and night lasers, a spokesman said Sunday.
Soldiers in the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division unit can have day visits but must sleep at the base at night, said Maj. Chris Ophardt, a spokesman at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Authorities conducted an inventory last month and are trying to determine how long the equipment has been missing, he said.
The unit has been home from Iraq since September 2010.
Authorities have offered a $10,000 reward. No more information was immediately available.

It's probably being used to full fill the Patriot Act mandates for municipalities via 'grants'......

Sounds like more than one gun missing.  Possible that the person charged with inventorying the weapons was fudging numbers to move weapons.  Not knowing how long they've been missing seems like an organized effort.  I was told that after every shooting exercise with live ammo, every live round was accounted and collected before leaving the range.  It's second hand info, is that true?

Yep................although sh*t does happen...............We were doing some mortar live fire exercises and when we got to the OP to direct fire we found two ammo boxes full of M 14 ammo.....................we spent the day calling in mortar fire and using all that ammo up for laughs.............set the guns to full auto and had at it.......... .............somebodies a** got seriously burned for misplacing that stuff.................all we had to do was clean our weapons.
